It is a double edged sword, but it means that you can steal things the troons develop for yourself. We see this as the case with Goon, their code is not AGPL and we have a bunch of troons in charge. But we don't see anyone running their code modified to remove the homosex and sneedfully host.

You know, I originally thought MSO got swept up in all this stuff with the troons like many others.
But this made me realized, despite the large amount of interaction I've had with him, he was always like this.
This video could be fake, but the rest of my experience with him lines up anyways.
I realize why his username is ABearInTheWoods, his always present displeasure with women, maybe it was already obvious to everyone else but this is pretty shocking to me.

He's a homosexual, there was no other way this was going to end with him in charge.

Layman's terms incoming. This is world of theory from non-lawyers, so take it with a grain of salt. Essentially, GPL3 has a loophole specific to how SS13 is played (over a network) that makes it so you don't need to release the source code. AGPL3 is an amended version to seal this loophole. AGPL effectively means that anyone who connects to the server is entitled to easy access to the code and tools needed to compile the game into a playable state.

Of note, the fact its GPL at all is illegal, as the code was released under CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0, which is incompatible. At some point in history TG re-licensed illegally.

GPLv3 and AGPL require to release the source for the code if you "distribute" it. Goonstation was NY-SA-CC 3.0 (only prohibits commercial use) so they were closed source until 2020.

The AGPL closes the "application service provider" loophole, eg; if you host an ss13 sever over the web it's not "distribution" in the GPLv3.

It's been known that there have been gayops by issuing DMCA takedown notices over the game (BestRP is major gayop one, I think the Russian servers had a fight too at one point), MSO at /tg/ has done so before in legitimate requests.

Of note, the fact its GPL at all is illegal, as the code was released under CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0, which is incompatible. At some point in history TG re-licensed illegally.

Goon is also unwilling (imho) to enforce this issue for better or for worse.

The only possible "authorized" source for GPL may be baystation (Pre-goon/tg cross porting). Even then that codebase is long lost and pre-luna (rr4407). Hobnobbed decompile was under LGPLv2 or GPLv3 but not used in any major codebase I know of.

I am not sure if goon ever licened r4407 under GPL 3

Technically every individual contributor has to agree unless they signed away their copyright to an organization which they likely did not

Everything after a certain date on our repo is considered AGPL and that is a valid 'relicensing' pathway as it only applies to newly produced stuff. Everything after a second date is +NIGGER. Because the repo has a license document, unless someone marks their work as under a different license (which you can legally do but not force us to accept into the repo), its assumed you are releasing under the only license disclosure that can be found with the code (the repo one)

I just wish the kiwiserver was more widely accessible. Seems like the only place you can just screw around on SS13.
