Jerry Rice broke the hearts of Black Twitter last year when he came out as an “All Lives Matter” guy in his criticism of Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem. The legendary 49er later changed his tune and apologized for the tweet while also supporting Kaep for “bringing awareness for injustice.” And now Rice is digging a hole for himself again.

The Hall of Famer is getting all sorts of heat for a Popeyes commercial entitled, “Popeyes Wingovations with Jerry Rice.” In the ludicrous ad, Rice wears the “Taste Mask,” a football helmet with a spinning fried chicken attached for “360 degrees of pure wing rotation for handsfree wing eating.” My goodness.

While there isn’t anything wrong with loving fried chicken, the image of a grinning black man wearing a helmet with a spinning drumstick plays too much on the “black people love chicken” stereotype. Oddly enough, the stereotype has its roots in A Birth Of A Nation, the 1915 silent movie about the founding of the Ku Klux Klan. In one scene, the film depicts black elected officials acting crudely, drinking and boorishly eating fried chicken at a legislative meeting. Since then, the stereotype has been used in racist depictions of black people and remains a sensitive issue.

So, with all that in mind, Jerry Rice is once again feeling the wrath of Black Twitter.

With all the Paneras around in my area, it's strange how I see more Popeye's ads, when there's only one or two which I'm aware of close by, let alone Carl's Jr./Hardee's where the closest one is over an hour and a half north from me.

They advertise all the goddamn time where I'm at, and all their restaurants are in areas where I would not go in the dark.

We had a "PaneraCares" which was a pay what you can glorified soup kitchen in our super gay, super yuppified "Lakeview" neighborhood. Yuppies were expected to overpay, and hobos could put in whatever change they could or clean tables with a load of shit in their pants.
It was one of the only Panera restaurants you'd ever see an abundance of blacks (mostly trannies) in. Also homeless and those who have housing vouchers for being mentally ill.
They and the exceptional people from a neighborhood mental health clubhouse tore the shit out of the place. They closed citing remodeling was too expensive and the whole neigborhood was pissed about the massive influx of homeless. The fuckers tore up all the seats, carpet, etc. There's this long term effort to degentrify the neighborhood that's too horrifying to think about.

It's the first one to fail.

Oh come on there isn't a single chicken joint that doesn't have a black person dancing while enjoying their chicken. Black people dancing is likey 30% of the economy

Because saying "all lives matter" and liking chicken is a slight against black GodJesus.

Honestly, the chicken helmet thing is kinda fucked up, but it's still funny, and I doubt it's going to affect Popeye's sales in any significant way.

It looks like it would be in an A Wyatt Mann cartoon about, I dunno. A renewable energy resource or something.
It is a good invention, it would save a lot on paper napkins. Chicken grease is a both to get off
