As far as I know, Larian never championed themselves as "le based" developers and did not argue with shitlibs on X, like Vavra. Their game is also a fantasy and it begins with character creation. You can play as a faggot elf to your hearts content, if that's your thing.
beyond that, with how pozzed D&D had become (remember the movie? or Critical Role?) it made sense to allow queer shit like that, and it paid off too, they sold way more copies than that game had any right to because Tabletop gaming, turnbased, and isometric games have become a fuckload more popular than they were 20 years ago.

this is a great point. so many people on the right are so desperate to have anything to enjoy they'll hold their nose on anything. Picard was just as shitty as Rogue One but the RLM were cumming in their pants over picard season3.
You see a similar thing with BG3, i know numerous people who were anti-gay a dozen years ago who were just so starved for any good AAA game that they just go "you know you don't have to play those parts right?" and just enjoy the game.

If you're paying attention to recent history Chris Rufo has been able to kill off SJW stuff by basically contacting Advertisers, Sponsors, or Alumni of whatever college was instituting that DEI bullshit and even if the dean of the college initially put up a defense, after a month they'd give up. So in a way we could have killed off this DEI bullshit a decade earlier if people were willing to fight. but they were not. I remember them swinging the banhammer on Kotakuinaction at that time too.
