Bad webcomics

That's a little unfair IMO. From what I've seen of Pipe Up! in this thread, it's more grounded than this (relatively speaking). Both try to portray delusions as real, but Pipe Up! has a comparatively light tone, although possibly unintentionally. This is just Watership Down but in the Kokiri Forest.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually kinda miss schizobunny a little bit, even though it's only been a couple of weeks.
A fair point, but I actually find the fact that Pipe Up! is more grounded to make it look even more insane lol. Pipe Up! is trying really hard to portray objective fantasy as objective reality, meanwhile a lot of Children of the Light's schizo shit is intertwined with literal magic and fantasy that makes the "real" disorders a lot easier to swallow. Either way, they're both pretty nuts.

It was interesting to read about how accurate the depiction was! Thanks for sharing, it's nice hearing the opinion of someone to whom this would be targeted.
what the HELL is with the more unlikeable SnP characters trying to push sex?
If this stuff was pulled by intentionally-unlikeable characters I'd say it's some heavy-handed reference to a real-life relationship of hers that turned sour or some kind of weird queer "anyone who wants sex is evil" thing (I've heard this from more extreme asexuals, so maybe?).

However, given that this kind of stuff is almost always pulled by "flawed protagonists" that SnP forgot to give almost any redeeming qualities, I have to say I'm clueless. Given her constant indulgence in Discord, tumblr, and similar circles, it might legitimately be some kind of weird joke to her. I know a lot of tumblr's humor revolves around "SEX! LAUGH!" (optionally: "GAY SEX! LAUGH!") at this point and has for a while, so it could just be that poorly-translated into comic form.

I can't be the only one here getting Assigned Male vibes from this art style, right?
Fuck, I was going to disagree with you but I'm kind of seeing where you're coming from and now I don't know what to say.

I think it might be
  • Both framed by white that bleeds into the panel dividers
  • Bright pastel colors
  • Excessively round edges everywhere
  • Gradient backgrounds in panels mostly taken up by speech bubbles
  • Very similar eyes (black irises, white highlights, white sclera, almost always in a round eye shape)
  • Somewhat similar font?
Yeesh, they're a lot more similar than I first thought. Good catch, I guess.

That, and the way this faggot draws faces in general is almost exactly dead-on for how, in my mind, billy labelle does. I'd be willing to bet the similarities would be even more glaring if we were to dig up and compare his furry pro-grooming art instead of his human pro-grooming art, though.

ED: Just dug that up from his thread, it definitely comes even closer in vibes.

Our protagonist, Tashi, is supposedly a "defective" forest spirit... which means that he has zero self-control, a bad attitude, and far too much emotional investment in random things. This sequence, early in Chapter 1, sums up a lot of his personality:
I shouldn't reply while I'm still reading this, but I didn't know it was possible to establish such a little shit of a protagonist so damn fast. (The way his leaves look like horns is kinda clever, though)
Like they fail on the "the animals hate them and talk shit a lot" angle by immediately going tell don't show on it and the first animal the audience ever sees being pretty respectful before Tashi starts ranting at him.
After this, he is offered to shadow a certain child, and the entire plot of the comic kicks off.
Why would the tree describe word-for-word how much Tashi sucks at his job, then proceed to assign what seems to be his biggest fuck up to mentor a young child instead of getting anybody actually competent to do it?
It's sold as "authentic neurodivergent representation", but it's about as authentic as a brain-damaged anime girl's alternate personality as a serial killer portraying the authentic experiences of real """systems""". Ru's voices in her head are actual, real-life entities trying to communicate with her about upcoming events or chosen destinies. They whisper about shadow spirits right before they arrive, they give her emotional support and comfort when she needs it. Ru's voices are essentially her own personal therapist, and the comic repeatedly frames other people as rude or insensitive for assuming that she's crazy or ill for having them despite also acknowledging and proving that they seem to do her more good than harm.

Shit, at LEAST Schizobunny comic tried to stay marginally grounded and didn't full on make the protagonist's illness a literal superpower (I mean, not yet.). Also it seems to follow that comic's exact same trope of having the protagonist's friend/sibling being way more responsible and likable than them. (Also, it's a REALLY bad fucking look for two entirely different protagonists that are supposed to be ostensibly likable to casually talk about sexual topics to people that are clearly uncomfortable with them. The Kai stuff was questionable enough, but the one Tashi's talking to is explicitly a child.)

Funny enough on reflection this is exactly the kind of world I said Pipe Up! could have worked in a while back. If you removed the mental illness representation and had a bunch of spirits try to share a body without anyone catching on and everyone else thought he was crazy in this world it could have worked IMO.

I'm a sucker for a cute art style so I don't mind SnP's art but I hate the way she draws bunnies/rodents walking:

They look like they're gonna fall over. He needs to walk more upright with shorter arms/forelegs to look right

To be fair, this setting is way more workable for this kind of setup, it's just the protagonist is obnoxious and they tried to have their cake and eat it, too, in regards to representation by including schizophrenia at first and then revealing it to be an actual spirit.
Wait, why would they even have any concept of what breasts are? They wouldn't have them even if they WERE real squirrels.

Not to post too much about it, maybe I get attached to comics easily or the Schizobunny author just made a hell of an impression dammit, but honest to god, I did some reading through this one because I thought the initial worldbuilding setup was vaguely interesting, and I SWEAR every negative interaction Tashi has (aside from MAYBE the tree) goes downhill because of him being the one starting shit or needlessly escalating it and making everything worse for himself and people around him. Reading the comments really put into perspective just how young the actual audience is when they endlessly make excuses for him while simultaneously berating Iya for being kinda physically aggressive and not coddling him 24/7.

They also talk about the relationship between the tree and the spirits being like a dysfunctional family, and like I see it, but without a modern-earth setting for a modern human view of morality to make sense, it seems more like a deity and his angels or even Watership Down type of deal rather than "nooo, poor autistic boy isn't accepted by his tree dad!". I don't really even understand the point of the spirits, since them and the animals seem to hate each other, and they're physically just squirrels made of light and can't really do much to help anyone aside from driving away spirits that are ALSO the size of squirrels and presumably very little physical threat.
It's the type of metaphor that breaks down when you look at it from an in-universe perspective, like why are magical forest guardians made of light even capable of spawning with human mental illnesses? If the character who's "canonically" schizophrenic turns out to have just had provably real voices inside their head that are definitely harmful and dangerous to them, how can we even be sure that Tashi's "canonical" autism isn't just them being an abrasive dick?

A comic i liked at one point that has no art style, no longer any story (the artist wanted it to be his main income and put it onto a patreon), and is a dull slice-of-life comic:

This is what he posts now. You get 1 (one) free comic a week, and the rest posted like this.
He definitely did one regarding their infant son (based on their real child) having/talking about having a boner. When he was maybe 2 years old.
I'd dig more for examples but it's too lame to suffer through.
I've noticed a few comics doing this now. They post one or two panels on social media, and then to see the rest you need to go to their patreon. But most of them just don't look like they're worth it. Like, nothing about this art style makes me want to see what happens next.

Patreon works best for comics with a story, and posting the strip a day or so early. For all the shit I'll give Dumbing of Age, his method of having a big buffer and letting patrons see the next day's update early for a couple of bucks a month, while still letting everyone else read the comic for free, was a good idea and is why he earned so much. This on the other hand, maybe it is a story, but there's nothing to entice me into checking it out.

He claims the creator of Samurai Jack had sex with his mother?
Yeah hes doing a stupid bit. He kind of just countersignals whatever the cool /co/ guy cartoon opinion is. So it'll go like

/co/ guy: "Oh primal is BASED. Robert Crumb is fuckin BASED!"
Mr. Raven: "Uhhhh no actually. The guy who made primal raped my mom to death"
/co/ guy: "Erm.. no he didn't? What the fuck are you talking about?"
Mr. Raven: "Ehehheh... you dumbass.. you fucking peon.. you fell for it. I know he didn't rape my mom. I was making a joke. All the kids in my discord are laughing at you."
/co/ guy: "??????"

Twitter users are real big into Schrodinger's Asshole where they just say stupid shit for engagement than laugh at you for engaging.

I noticed that Tatsuya Ishida doesn't add his watermark / name to the comics he uploads to Twitter.
Compare his January 16, 2025: Mount Olympus 94 comic from X.com

To the one from Sinfest

"THE MASTER OF DISGUISE" is probably the name of the comic, but he does not write that anywhere on Twitter or in text on his site.

The Sunday full page does not feature his name on either Twitter or Sinfest, but it does feature the little stick / branch thing in the bottom right corner. For example:

I doubt it has any real meaning, but it caught my eye.

Tatsuya Ishida

Tats is becoming more and more fascinating though, he is going far beyond the usual /pol/ mindrot. His last comics are Jews poisoning wells/killing children and getting lynched by angry mobs, all done in the usual Sinfest cutesy style.

Who's exactly is the target audience for this? Himself? Every time I see one of his works descending into the most schizo theories known to man, my curiosity about his life increases. This year he didn't even bother a pseudo "New Year" plot, he went directly for Jew murder.

When exactly he started his current course? 2019/20?

I'm just imagining being at the computer in 2002 reading my webcomics, a time portal opens up, and the CURRENT YEAR me steps through as I'm on Sinfest and waiting for dialup to load the images
"This dude is going to be doing a Jew well poisoning comics in 20 years."
"Ahahah that'll be funny, I can't wait to see how ridiculous that will be."
"no like unironcially. Its not even funny, he's just seething."

The art style is actually consistent and kind of cute. Unlike Assigned Male where it's absolutely buggered up and Bill the Autist can't even draw the same character the same way from frame to frame, characters have bizarre bugeyes and bizarre facial expressions, etc. So imo at least the art in this is far better than AM.

One thing I can say about SnP is that they're a competent to even good artist, but even then, the way there's a dramatic zoom-in on their characters' faces every time they get upset gets pretty goofy once you notice how common it is.

WAY earlier than that. He started getting into politics seriously around 2007 or so, and it started to ramp up in 08/09. Then it went down and he went back to regular Sinfest with some occasional political shit, until the Matriarchy returned, this time as heroes. His insanity began ramping up and no one could tell him he was wrong. Then, around the late tens, something shifted. He started getting more and more based, until last year when he actually went full on "The Jews are the Enemy" without any jokes to it.
