Birthright was an intentional misreading of a law that was used to solidify something the left really really wanted.

If Biden can ignore the gentlemen's agreements our country is held together by, so can Trump.
This is wrong on so many levels.
1) Constitutional amendments are not laws.
2) The 14th was introduced and passed by republicans and supported by many northern democrats. It was centrist for the time and could be considered populist; but it had nothing to do with the modern conceptions of "left" and "right".
3) They're also not gentleman's agreements, that's a fucking retarded thing to say.
4) There's no misreading involved. Here's the text:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

If time travel is invented within your lifetime it would behoove you to go back to middle school and pay attention.

President Donald Trump said he plans to fill the US’s strategic oil reserve “right to the top” after it reached lows not seen since the 1980s under President Joe Biden.

Trump vowed to “bring prices down, fill our strategic reserves up again right to the top and export American energy all over the world” during his inaugural address at the Capitol Monday.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which has a maximum capacity of about 700 million barrels, currently stands at at 394.4 million barrels following a record selloff during Biden’s administration. The drawdowns under Biden included selling 180 million barrels into the global market in an attempt to bring down gasoline prices following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Biden had begun slowly refilling the emergency cache, which was created in the aftermath of Arab oil embargo in the 1970s, but ran out of funding to buy more crude after purchasing about 60 million barrels. It would take an act of Congress to appropriate more money for the Energy Department’s petroleum account.

This is the point of contention. The architects of the amendment explicitly said it was naturalize people who find themselves in what has become US territory who have no allegiance to a foreign power. That part is key; it wasn't to allow Irish to come over, pump out a kid, and then sail back.

The 14th was passed to address the dual issues of freed slaves as well as "US acquires new territory, now what?" which had come up quite a few times.

I honestly believe we need to forbid dual-citizenship and create some sort of "You aren't a citizen, your children aren't automatically citizens, but you have permission to come and go from the country as you please and have work status" legal resident alien status.

Unfortunately, no, Chauvin was convicted under Minnesota state law. Trump's pardon powers on extend to federal law. It would take Tim Walz to pardon Derek, and you'd have a better chance of selling snow to an eskimo

The relevant section is "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof". There's never been clarity if illegal aliens are subject to the jurisdiction of the US or if more sensibly they and their offspring are subject to the jurisdiction of their home country.

There was a case in the 1800's where a Chinese kid was declared a citizen when his parents were permanent residents, but they arrived before America started passing laws meant to curtail immigration, so they were apparently legal permanent residents. The Chinese exclusion act shut the door on Chinese immigrants.
