Yup, his "street smart" LARP has been around for years. I think it's basically a way for him to berate people whose decisions, he believes, affect his business. I remember there was a rant about YouTube and how the programmers or whatever there don't create an algorithm which benefits YouTubers like Phil. To him, those programmers are book smart and do not know what they are doing. This is why they need to seek the advice of a YouTuber, like himself, who is street smart and knows how to make the algorithm fair.

Real reason, he did this years ago with Apex Legends, one of the people was a lot better at the game than him (ego damage) and another had a voice that marked him as an actual retard (proving Phil has wheelchair symbol fans). Phil will never risk this again. This is why he will always, always fight against suggestions to play team based games other than COD where he can completely ignore his team. Closest you'll get is him playing a game he knows he's good at (so Street Fighter or MvC2) against someone he knows he is better than or on par with skill wise.

Like lets say there are generally fans of his, they like him, they want to watch him play a game because maybe hes good or maybe they like the dumb shit he does in it.

He thinks they ask him to play games because they're going to give him tips for playing it, like hes providing a service.

He doesn't realize they just want to hang out with him, he doesn't care about that. He wants the money, he NEEDS it as a way to validate his stream.

The last time he's been calling everyone book smart nerds with the frequency that he's been doing now was back in 2016-2017. He got fucked by a bunch of events, most notably by the Youtube adpocalypse and by Machinima shitcanning him. Every few months some tech company or CEO that inconvenienced him in some way, whether real or perceived, was called a book smart idiot 10 times in one week. I've noticed that with the recent uptick in the book smart/street smart dichotomy it isn't really spurred by him getting financially fucked by companies but by being forced to interact with modern technology (or well, technology that was modern 10 years ago). He really has regressed to the mental age of a 5 year old. If something doesn't work immediately or he fucks something up and encounters a minor inconvenience he immediately loses his shit and starts calling everyone involved with the creation of it book smart nerds with no street smarts. This was exemplified by the mic arm disaster stream.

Between the tech support segments, new webcam angle, and the shirts showing off his moobs, Phil looks more like a boomer who heard about streaming and thinks it means free money than he ever has before. Congrats Phil, there are literal 80 year olds more competent at streaming than you!

The first time I remember him using it was waaaaay back when Youtube first changed its algorithm to favor watch time rather than individual view numbers which caused him to lose a good chunk of revenue. He thinks "book smart" means you're a nerd who doesn't understand the real world, and somehow that's the opposite of him, a shut-in who brags about only leaving his house one day a week and not owning socks. If you don't create your games so Phil can make the most money with the least effort, you're not "street smart".
