This is sentiment of most telegram war commentators . Another example of Zelensky and Syrsky being best comanders of Russia. They should have get out at the start of January , but no UA will stay and will fight to last drop of blood. Same thing is happening over and over again and it always leads to same Ukrainian disaster. Bakhmut, Avdeevka, Ugledar, Krinky...

At this point, I think it's completely reasonable for the local commander to ignore everything zelensyrskyyy tells them, contact Volga and hoist the french white flag.

Man, i could not agree more. but things are quite complicared, EU is a dept of the Us govt but as they let madmen get to power they are starting to think they can do things on their own, which they cant because they dont have the means. Not to mention that basically no european except a few idiots is willing to pick up and rifle and go fight the russians.

True. One thing they WOULD be interested in though is something bigger than Ukraine: Negotiating a new security settlement in Europe.

Maybe that could be combined with negotiating what happens in the arctic, maybe not.

So Trump does have a few cards he can play to get Russia aboard.

I suspect he will be under a lot of pressure from the neocons to “stay the course” and “demonstrate strength” and all that nonsense.

Trump has very good populist and political instincts though, so I reckon he will go the route of washing his hands of Ukraine and blaming it on Biden

In case of a nuclear exchange, Europe will turn into a parking lot, Russia and the US will both get maimed, but ultimately Nukes would be worse for the US than for Russia.

Russia has a LOT of strategic depth, and even if you glass Moscow and Skt. Petersburg, there will be many regional centers left with you plenty of industry and military resources. Russia would fare better losing Moscow and the Western parts than the US would losing the East and west coasts.

Fortunately Trump seems really scared of nuclear war, and would likely avoid it at any cost.

Sorry fren, but extremely optimistic of you to assume that the commander is anywhere near the front.

From all previous POWs, we’ve heard stories of their commanders being far from the front, never visiting the troops, and only giving their hohol slaves order over the radio.

You know, someone once procured a hen from an industrial chicken farm, and attempted to raise it in a backyard flock. What they discovered is that decades of selective breeding had left the poor creature too heavy to incubate her own eggs. I think about that story whenever anyone wonders why Europe does not show more independence. They can't, because Europe's modern political class, from the PMs to the organizer in the smallest village, has never been allowed to have either balls or neurons. The possibility of defying Uncle Sam is as remote as the possibility of that chicken raising her own offspring.

No, but it looks like saying the quiet part out loud.

There is no way UA can retake those without a full blown US army intervention, and that would be WW3. Unless Zelensky can figure out how to raise the dead or clone new Azovs, he is out of luck.

Perhaps if hundreds of Abrams and a thousand F-16s were given right at the start of the war, maybe.
But that is the realm of historical fiction now, like what if Japan had flying mechas in WW2.
