Troonslop "Retro" Games / Demake games / PS1 Trannies / ULTRAKILL / Y2K trannies - Retro gaming is infected

I wish retro fanatics were less interested in aping the actual results of retro designs, and more interested in exploring what those designers might have created if they had access to the tools we have now, with the same artistic sensibilities.
The problem is that most are not professionals and do not have the talent to do that. Some don't have the drive or even the imagination to do so. It's a hard thing that not many people develop.

A lot of styles and revivalism were a bit like that, until vaporwave happened and they thought doing a throwback meant they should ape the old styles as hauntology or set-aesthetic.

It would good idea to make CARI tread and how much damage they done to graphic design.
I'm an economic leftist but CARI descriptions are pretentious nonsense, e.g. how minimalist Y2K style labelled as 'Gen X Soft Club' by them is said to be a 'coloniser' style - how is the style coloniser? Also I don't think average graphic designer overthink their inspiration too much. Art ebbs and flows and mix into each other. These specific styles were never static thing in time and influenced each other. These people are so obsessed with things being neatly defined and categorised and only to be imitated in 'ironic' way (vaporwave was inherently ironic internet movement). As almost a mockery of old art.

And that description, it feels like they act like they're 'above marketing' but when you're making a site like this you totally played yourself into it. Generation names were made by marketers to create market division, this obsession with decades and specific aesthetic of eras were likely something marketers psyopped us into too.

And of course some of the site runners are troons

No no, the retcon trans thing hinges on him being groomed by a government agent in the newest game mistakenly calling him a girl several times and saying other creepy fucking "egg hatching" shit.
Original plot was like his parents tried raising him as a girl because of some superstitious BS and he ended up still being a guy anyways and moved away and became a hitman for hire. The reason he's a fucking weirdo like he is is similar to N from pokemon being a weirdo in he spent like a good chunk of his formative life sheltered and treated like a small child IIRC. Big difference is the N kid from pokemon wasn't told he was a girl for his early years of life.

Basically the reason people that actually pay attention to shit had a problem is the message literally becomes "permanently fucking up kids for superstitious reasons is ok because they're actually totally trans kids guys and just don't know it yet!" The "subversion" of making bridget a transwoman isn't a subversion at all and is a return to status quo of gender stereotype shit. What pissed people off severely is troons and "influencers" in the gaming community suddenly acting like this was completely ok and wasn't a complete bullshit character reversal, like even if you don't like the effeminate anime manchild from a fighting game series with all kinds of wacky characters if you take even the SLIGHTEST amount of time to look into things you can see why the trans thing is like complete dogshit addition to bridget. I remember some trannies got pissed about it too at the start because they knew it'd make them look bad till the right "influencers" said otherwise lmao.
subreddits like eggirl and 196 were filling with that tranny with shitty edits or memes, like xhe was their totem

Not game related, but while we're on the topic of graphic design I remember a guy I knew used to be obsessed with this song by Porter Robinson that looking back now I feel like was kind of the start of the whole Y2K revival.

Keep in mind this came out in late 2017 and most of the breakcore/Y2K revivalism didn't start until post-2020, so I'll let you guys form you're own opinion about it. Personally I thought it was an interesting idea and it came out right around the beginning of the 20 year window where trends become nostalgic again, so there wasn't much to compare against at the time (afaik).

The reason I mention this is I went a bit deeper into the rabbit hole and found out one the designers, DV-i, who helped with the graphics for the "Virtual Self" project ended up trooning out years later after the pandemic.
They also made a dating-sim visual novel game in 2015 that's heavily Y2K-inspired (is it still troonslop if they didn't transition yet? probably):

Aurora Memoria: Philosophical Data Session 2093

Priz Tats is proud to present Aurora Memoria, the latest release from digi-wunderkind and Manhattan producer DV-i. Brilliantly showcased as the soundtrack to an interactive Visual Novel, Aurora Memoria is a 5 song ultra-concept EP full of lush, digitally-quantized bellscapes punctuated by samples, sweeps and FM blips. Set in the neutropic, hyper-evolved megalopolis 'Fuji City,' this interactive Visual Novel-written by Callie Beusman-is an inspired new take on a medium colloquially referred to as the 'dating-sim'.

Aurora Memoria allows the player character up to five divisive plot courses which wind their way through a multitude of rich CG and vector-illustrated backdrops and character designs complemented by nuanced dialogue and branching plot arc. A concept release to its very core, DV-i's Aurora Memoria material format will be equally as stunning. This interactive release will be loaded onto a 4-gigabyte Secure Digital (SD) card with custom printed decal and housed in a 3d printed, thermoplastic case--this, of course, all designed by DV-i as well.

"Aurora Memoria is a comprehensive multimedia exploration of science fiction, japanese anime, corporate audio-logos and the studio ghibli-blue-and-green optimism of a Sony-developed speculative lifestyle. Punctuated by the very real fears of a post-climate change, mass data-culled surveillance society, Aurora Memoria is fused together by a combination of IDM, Japanese Technopop, drum-n-bass and Yamaha digital synths (with a sprinkling of fictionalized teenage angst)."

Here's a link to their website and BSky account if you want to see more. I'm sure I'm only scratching the surface of how many people involved in the Y2K revival are actually trans.

(is it still troonslop if they didn't transition yet?
Given that it looks identical to all the modern troonslop that doesn't actually know what older 3D graphics looked like, I'd say so.

✅ textures that are way too clean for the models
✅ a high-enough poly count to feel uncanny with the lack of detail
✅ esoteric meaningless bullshit to make it feel "deep"
✅ needlessly cluttered interfaces and backgrounds because Cruelty Squad (except in this one case)
✅ extremely forced and unfitting "early internet" weebisms in regular dialogue
✅ complete lack of tonal consistency (especially Marvelesque "uwu so quirky" dialogue during serious moments)
✅ little to no consideration given towards tone or themes beyond the usual college-student slop (muh capitalism/colonialism/racism/-ism bad) if any is given at all

Feels like a damn anachronism with how old it is. Looks like some trashy slop you'd see made in 2025, yet came out in 2015. Simultaneously aging like wine and milk. Wilk.
I'm guessing it was influenced more by vaporwave than anything else, given that second picture's background and the timing of the game, but who knows. It could've just been an avant-garde tribute to Super Monkey Ball all along or something.

With these types of games you notice the pattern of the same talking points over and over and over and over again. It makes it easier from a game search to spot them and ignore them but to be a little blanket for a second this is the internet issues over the past decades of "everyone has a voice". It's a stigma that has rotted over the years which boiled down to all these supposedly different people walking up to the mic and go "racism and capitalism are bad". Don't offer a different perspective it's just regurgitated talking points over and over and over again no matter what game it is they talk about the same things but in the same exact way.
Everyone has a voice, but not everyone is worth listening to.
This is the philosophy i follow since there's a lot of stupid opinions i personally have (and probably have told on this website lol) but for the most part I keep them to myself. Not everyone wants to hear every little thought of every single person.

It's nice to try and inspire people to create with that sentiment, but for everyone who just enjoys games it eventually changes. Everyone has a voice, but not everyone is worth listening to. And it also shows how many people copy/paste their homework from wikipedia articles.

I actually think neo-retro is shit for exactly the opposite reason, they fail to do what those retro designers did using their limited resources, much less improve on them. This is particularly the case in roguelikes and roguelites, where they rarely capture the complexities of even a relatively simple hack-and-slash like Rogue much less the obsessive completionism of Nethack.

Earthblade, the metroidvania project from the makers of Celeste, has been cancelled. The given reasons include losing a major developer due to an IP dispute, development being too slow, and the team thinking the game wouldn't live up to the big expectations set by Celeste.

Troonslop (2015):
Why is there no texture filtering? Old video games would never have these ugly pixelated textures and even newer pixel art games actually try to make it look appealing. Also, old games used to draw lots of details onto characters to make them look cool. Notice how with JC you can see the lines on his face, the reflections on his skin, individual seams on his outfit, etc. while the troonslop is just monochromatic polygons? The shadows on the second model are weird looking too. What the hell is wrong with this guy's nose?

I think the people who make troonslop have an extremely childish idea of what producing art is. They just take whatever superficial elements they like from whatever anime they've watched recently and cram it all stream of consciousness style into whichever format requires the least amount of effort. Why's it all low-quality FPSes and visual novels? Where are all the troonslop grand strategy games? They don't care about making something good, just showing off their autistic daydreams like they're writing their own personal Sonichu. Just like Chris they've never grown past scribbling everything that pops into their heads with the artistic skill of a retarded child. A smart person would harness said autistic daydreams as a source of inspiration and possibly a foundation for something actually half decent, but they don't care about that. If they did they might actually produce something that isn't hideous, or perhaps even improve their skills in some way. I'm not saying everything you put out there has to be flawless but why bother if the best you can do in terms of self-expression is something AI will probably be able to make with a sentance or two of prompting sometime this decade? AI can already produce decent visuals and sometimes even decent writing and if you can't or won't do better than that or at least create something genuinely interesting you should just give up on making things and settle for being a subhuman flesh automoton with no inner monologue. People used to take pride in their work. What happened?

I also can't stand how hard they try to ape the "y2k aesthetic" when it's apparent they don't care or know anything about it. I get that if you're 20 something you might have nostalgia for that time period but if you're just going to superimpose gay, retarded nonsense from 2025 onto a combination of things you vaguely remember from when you were growing up and those equally gay and retarded aesthetic posts on social media you should just drop the retro larp and own doing what you want. You're still a poser but at least you'd be honest about it.

they skinwalk old art just like they skinwalk the opposite gender
made a similar point earlier in I think another thread? The troon artstyle thread thing where it started with people posting old artstyles or unrelated meme stuff thatgot more into an actual talk about shit later on. Less words than my ramble lmao.
Why is there no texture filtering?
I think it's trying to emulate the games from that timeframe that looked a bit more flat-ish with character models and some jankier animations, but even those weren't quite as blobby.

I bet those reasons are fake as fuck. More likely that the tranny was suffering from TDS (self-inflicted) and becoming insufferable to work with.
