That could be explained by the fact that he's never actually read a single work of Plato, only a jokebook meant to explain philosophy which happens to mention Plato. For all the praise he gives to Plato, he completely misunderstands even basic concepts. Its truly impressive.
I definitely agree and I'm glad you brought it up. Since Rudyard loves to speak about philosophy, let's evaluate his expansive philosophic knowledge. For example, in this tweet he laments about how little we talk about philosophers like Aristotle, Spinoza, and Confucius. Rudyard has not read a single work from Spinoza or Confucius, and has read a single work by Aristotle (which he gave 3 stars). For all the discussion of how Rudy misunderstands history and fails as a historian, his failings as a philosopher often get overshadowed.
In this tweet Rudyard shames 'wokes' for their lack of understanding of their own philosophy, bragging about even he has more knowledge about philosophers like Simone de Beauvoir (he got the name wrong), Marcuse, Derrida, and Foucault than they do, noting specifically that "I've studied their philosophy deeply". Now if when he says "studied deeply" he means never having read even a single work of a single one of the authors he listed, then he would be correct.
In this tweet, the brilliant philosopher Rudyard questions why Schopenhauer is considered a real philosopher and calls him a 'depressed incel'. Perhaps Rudyard could know more about this inquiry if he ever actually read a single work of Schopenhauer.
In another wise critique from the great philosopher Rudyard, he insults Montaigne for taking "10,000 pages to say nothing". I suppose it is true from his perspective, as having not read a single page of Montaigne, it would seem like he said nothing.
In this tweet, Rudyard argues that philosophers like Plato, Foucault, and Rousseau are 'completely wrong' with the 'science firmly against them'. As established above, he's never read Plato or Foucault, and just to finish it off he has never read Rousseau either.
In this tweet Rudyard draws comparisons of liberalism between Latins and Germanics, which may be difficult since he has read neither Rousseau nor Locke.
In this tweet Rudyard gives some opinions on the western tradition, including authors like Plato, Hegel, Marx, Hume (he got the name wrong), Pythagoras, Roger Bacon, and Montaigne. Unfortunately, he has not read a single work by Plato, Marx, Humes, Pythagoras, Roger Bacon, or Montaigne, and only made it about 1/5th through a work by Hegel before giving it a bad review and calling it "dishonest".
In a more recent tweet, Rudyard makes his case for why mysticism is not contradictory with Christianity, giving some Christian authors such as St. Augustine, St. Chrysostom, St. Loyola (he got the name wrong), Newton, Descartes, and Thielhard De Chardin as supportive examples. As you may have anticipated from the pattern above, Rudyard has not read a single work by a single one of these authors, and if I had to make a guess, the same applies to the unknown "50 others" he mentions.
