I don't think its gonna end like that, more likely Trump's deal with Putin will be to cut off Ukraine and Russia gets the current holdings including Crimea. Letting them get essentially half the country would be too much of an L, and I think the west relenting on 20-25% of Ukraine's territory with a total end for the war and sanctions would still be a considered a win inside Russia. Don't get me wrong Ukraine its still fucked, with this deal there's no NATO and likely no EU or even Schengen deal, a huge chunk of the population fled and wont come back after getting into the first world. Another chunk simply died, we'll maybe see the real numbers when this ends, maybe. The country's infrastructure its destroyed and we (the west) wont pay for the rebuild, that I can guarantee because some legislators here have already mentioned they are not going to support it, the idea being that Ukraine should pay for it themselves with future revenues of mineral extraction that in this scenario is not gonna happen, and with agricultural commodity prices in the toilet they're gonna have a hard time getting back up.
