I could never best NG NES, shit was unfair and impossible even with save states. I couldn't even really get into the sequels.

The Game Boy one was cool, but it didn't hook me. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is the latest one I've played, I love it but it kicks my ass. I'll try to beat it eventually, but the camera and controls are a bit wonky.

I've now played through the remaining 3D games and the DS game too.

Sigma 2 - I wish that basic enemies weren't so spongy, and they didn't reuse the giant statue boss shit so many times.
Surprisingly good outside that. I went to Mentor straight away since I heard Normal on Sigma 2 is like Easy on the first game.

I feel like this game tried to smooth out the lows of the series but also ended up chopping off the highs a little bit too much for some people.

Why Sigma 2? Vanilla 2 emulates perfectly fine on Xenia, except the audio cuts out. I played chapter 2 and decided to come back to it in a year or something, hopefully that shit gets fixed. I'm not investing money into an Xbox just to play 2 or 3 games till the used price hits rock bottom.

Razor's Edge - The smoothest combat in the series. Also some of the lowest lows in the series (Helicopter boss on the level where you fight multiple other helicopters, pure cancer. Segments where Ryu crawls at 2kph because he needs to). I got my nuts crushed because I played it on Hard immediately.

If Razor's Edge wasn't so linear and wasn't made from the retarded skeleton of 3, it would probably be people's favorite I think.

Dragon Sword- I'm surprised at how a mobile tier game where you need to swipe like a madman on the screen somehow manages to capture the spirit of the 3D games.

It was starting to get a little repetitive and mashy (well, it was explicitly made because Itagaki's daughter liked to play on the DS and he decided to make a game for it), but you will finish it in less than 6 hours and it's a pretty charming game with all the villagers. I emulated this on my phone, you can play with touchscreen controls perfectly because everything except blocking is done by swiping on the screen, and all 8 buttons (DPad + face buttons) block.

Bonus: How did Itagaki predict the Shinzo Abe meme 15 years before it emerged?

I don't think I will be able to beat the NES games without save state scumming like a madman, so I'm storing them for a future time when I want my nuts even more crushed.

Honestly it's depressing how nothing has really come out that makes the 3D NG games look old and outdated gameplay wise. It's not too dissimilar to how we have so many late 90s / early 00s PC games that still tall (Looking Glass, I miss you so much).

The story/presentation/theme/designs/etc of the game is so lethally unappealing but the actual combat is great. 3DNG are pretty much the only "character action games" (I think we're calling them that now, even though it's stupid) that ever really gelled with me.

I think people are way too hard on Sigma 2 and somehow overlook all the stuff that was blatantly wrong and unfinished with 2 Vanilla and how much of the cut content was honestly just shit.

I also think there's no way the NES game is harder than the 3D ones on the higher difficulties, not by a long shot, and it's kind of interesting that some seem to think otherwise. Arcade game is rather underrated imo.

NG2B has the additional Weapons and Female Ninja Stages but not the extra bosses of Sigma 2. Gore is back and it's running off the Unreal Engine 5.

Only three days in and we get both a remake of ninja gaiden 2 and ninja gaiden 4. Has hack and slash finally been revived?

And my god, it makes it even better that ninja gaiden 2 is the best one.

Worth resurrecting since its giving off heavy DMC4 vibes and yeah sprinkled with some MGR Platinum fairy dust as well. Feels like a lot of Ninja Gaiden fans just always want the vanilla flavor of NGB and this definitely ain't it but this showing up out of nowhere along with NGBII.. I haven't given a shit about new releases in like 2 years now but I am all in for both.

It's cool we got a remake of 2 shadow dropped but the Itagaki versions of NG1 and NG2 still need a PC port, shame I don't think they'll ever get a proper one.

Lunar fucking supremacy dude. There is no better weapon in this series.

Alright so I noticed some issues already. First is that Japanese voices play when the English voices are selected, and another is that the level 2 lunar isn’t visible.

How is it running for you? @Soycast Guy
It’s running fine. Just having the issues I mentioned. I mean, hearing Japanese is fine but the lunar not showing up is pretty obnoxious and distracting ngl.

Edit: both of the problems have been solved now that I’m on the 2nd mission. I have no clue why it was like that on the first mission.

Yeah that’s obnoxious. It takes way too fucking long for a game that shouldn’t be nearly that much. 20 GB should be the max.
This game is 2 gigs bigger than The Witcher 3 with all DLC which is fucking nuts.

That's a 150+ hour open world rpg with lots of cutscenes, dialogue, music.

This is an 8 hour linear action game so why is it so fucking huge?

8k textures and 4k normal maps? What the fuck is going on?
