Here’s my question back to troons: if race is a fixed biological category but gender isn’t, why is the following false?

Black person + white person = mixed race child
Asian person + white person = mixed race child
Black person + Asian person = mixed race child

but

Male person + female person =/= mixed sex child

Oh God, I'm getting deja vu all over again. Back in the heyday of the Tranch I came across this article in Medium. I didn't have the stamina to read it then, let alone make notes to keep track of who was doing what to who, so I bookmarked it for later. I've looked at it a couple of times since, and every time have said to myself "later". Medium describes it as a 40 minute read which is probably an underestimate, and to be honest it's like being forced to binge watch Sweet Valley High or My Little Pony. They don't seem to understand that race really is a spectrum and it's totally possible to have a mix of different ethnicities in one person. That's why DNA tests from places like Ancestry are so popular - everyone is curious about where all they come from.

Sex isn't a spectrum. You will always be born as one or the other, depending on which chromosome your dad decided to give you. No parent goes, "Gee, I hope my kid is going to come out at least 40% male!" If sex was a spectrum, it would be totally possible to have someone with fully functioning sets of both genitals and other reproductive organs, but it's not.

I think they're just confusing, probably deliberately, an embryos structure with its genetic potential. We're either some variation of xx or xy at conception, but our structure is broadly female until the sex-differentiation kicks in at around week 7 and the Y chromosome produces SRY. It doesn't mean we're all female, because sex is determined by chromosomes and we have those from the moment of conception. In fact the creation of a new set of chromosomes is the very act of conception.
