In hindsight, Malcolm X has been coming off as much more respectable. He understood that civil rights and integration was just a trap and would be detrimental from society. Also unlike MLK who seems to have been a covert fifth columnist tendencies and hid his Marxist credentials, Malcolm X's open claims of being a socialist or communist were purely reactionary and interviews suggest he only saw socialism as acceptable to the extent that he thought it would help black people; he straight up associated with George Lincoln Rockwell if that's a sign about the extent of his leftist credentials. Whether or not his dream of a black separatist state would end up like your average African shithole, or actually against all odds become a well ordered society, we don't know, at the very least he seemed to understand that white and blacks would get along better if they went their separate ways and associated distinct from one another.

Malcolm X was killed because after his pilgrimage to Mecca, he stopped being a pro-violence asshole. He also went off the reservation and was no longer part of controlled opposition (Nation of Islam). Malcolm X was someone who started to think MLK's ideals were correct, but was not controllable. He was also competent on his own.
Based on literally every other black-run nation, I can take pretty good guess at it.

if you consider the whole war a consequence of diplomacy failing, it makes sense.
