Mr. Musk is mad, the British kind of mad. He can't tell the difference between science fact and science fiction, or rather, he believes that if he imagines science fiction becoming science fact, it will magically grease the wheels and accelerate the process. Economist John Maynard Keynes called this concept "Animal Spirits" - it doesn't work, at least not in the long term. The main value in society doesn't come from quirky pseudo-geniuses, magic, vibes, desires, trade/markets, invented mythology about Ancient Aryan Blonde Supermen or other science fiction pipe-dreams; the main value in society comes from "productive labor," as Adam Smith wrote so long ago.
