I think the reason why Republicans are so permissive to Elon is because he's like the rich kid you only hang out with to see his cool shit. In this case, Elon has a lot of push when it comes to owning Twitter, and owning some heavy hitters in science like SpaceX and Tesla. Elon is an embarrassment at the best of times, yes, but he still has enough of a veil of assumed competency that older boomers on the right are willing to let it slide in favor of having him be on their side.
