I feel inclined to advise anyone that goes through any type of hair sperg or impulse to *use guards*. if you get sick of your hair or are having a breakdown, whatever, start with the highest guard you have and rake it over the entire head until you stop hearing cutting sounds. it will keep your hair uniform and neat without needing work or experience. you'll have bit of neck hair and it won't be "clean" but you'll also have 40+ more a month and no gaps. most trimmers ive seen have a default max of like an 8 guard, but if you don't want to keep going over, something like a 3/4 is pretty good for a christian bale esque longer buzz and to get it off. if nervous and have time then do trim with 8, then 7, etc til satisfied.
additionally, look at your adams apple in the mirror, place 2 fingers horizontally on top of each other directly above it, and from that guideline trim left curving towards the left ear and right towards the right to remove neck beard. makes beard feel much less "take it off".
