I can never get the real statistic and i do NOT trust normie internet to tell me, but only 10-25% of southerners owned slaves. Most owned one. The other 75-90% were poor people working in a agricultural society that relied on the industry and shipping of the North to survive. When the North got high and mighty, cut off the South's agriculture industry, and went to war, the South had no choice but to fight for survival. The other option was turning their industry on its head and ruining the economy.
