If we're speaking first anime then the first one I actively seeked out rather saw on the children's channel was Shakugan no Shana. It was really cool and I'm happy it actually had an ending, even a decent one.

As for Eva, I wasn't impressed. I watched it way too late and while the edge is still pretty effective it's mainly technobabble and misery porn.

Best worst girl is Misato.

Misato is like plunging dick first into BPD. Not worth it.

I'd even argue that Aquarion does Eva's schtick better than Eva because the villains aren't just mindless beasts, the character-driven crap is woven into the story better, and the messages are fresher (and therefore more profound) due to being so random and weird at times as well as positive and inspiring.

Aquarion is what you get if you took the best parts of Eva like the character interactions and made them even better. Or took that one episode where Asuka and Shinji have to do everything synchronized to beat the Angel and expanded it to more or less the entire show. Stuff like that, mostly the first half of the show, was the best part of Eva and not the depressive schizo navel-gazing. And definitely not End of Evangelion (pretentious and stupid message) or the godawful third and fourth Rebuild movies which come off as parodies of the whole franchise.

Although it's unfair to mention Aquarion in the same context as Evangelion since beside some superficial religious symbolism and the post-apocalyptic aesthetic it's really just a modernized version of Getter Robo and never delves into navel-gazing or postmodernist nonsense.

When you know Evangelion stuff you get mad at seeing shit like: Anno is using Mari as a insert of his wife in the films. Not only because it isn't true, Anno is definitely using his wife in the movies, but in a different way: in 1.0, in one of the newspapers in train scene, there is a reference to charactets of Hataraki Man, a manga by his wife. (This was before Mari even existed).

And this trend continued as the books read by Rei are the books written by his wife.

This care for detail is immense in the movies, to an extent that isn't the same in NGE.

For example we have a list of the books brought by Asuka from Germany, and there are real books there too. Misato had her chinese books on strategy, the city metro guide and so on.

We still dont have the details to yhe third and fourth filma becauae it didn't came out yet, but the info on those books are absolutely insane in level of detail and care. (The worst part is to see the concept designs and see that we got their worse instead of their better ideas and concepts.

It is funny that even Evangelion designers admit that most of Anno's weapons designs were basically a resized version of a real weapon like a box cutter, meanwhile Yamashita was making cool sword full of evangelion flare and soul.

Mari isn't even a character. She's easily the worst part of the Rebuilds. All she has to show is the funny wacky attitude despite it making no sense given the dire circumstances in which she fights. She never developed, never felt human, never showed emotions deeper than a puddle, never did anything interesting. Her role was teasing Shinji and Asuka, participating in fight scenes with her OC Donut Steel special powerup exclusive to her, and winning the Shinjibowl at the end despite not having any kind of interesting relationship with him.

I like 4.0, IN SPITE of Mari. That's how bad she is.

Mari is best girl because she's not an actively horrible human being like the other Eva girls. She also looks the cutest too.

That said you're totally right and Rebuild 3 and 4 are so horrible in part because they do almost nothing with her.

Mari is flat as hell, she might be the better of the 3 children in waifu terms (though she's competing with a traumatized BPD girl and an abused autist) but she only really exists to fulfill Anno's 4 movie shitpost theme that can be summarized as "go touch grass". But than she's a Mary Sue with berserker mode who can solo angels on her own and shit which undercuts her being the "normal, emotionally stable one" anyway

Despite her screen time she's still a worse waifu than random fucking background characters like Toji's sister and Class President

The scene where the mage girl looked at his RPG stat screen and instead it gave her a splash screen with uninformative cool trivia was the moment I realised the author has enough love for the genre to make the show more than a few jokes repeated again and again.

Currently at 23 out of 24 translated chapters. Super suspenseful, really compelling read.
Has some NSFW elements, mainly how it depicts how a cut throat yakuza organization deals with traitors and assassins. There's a female assassin later on and to put it nicely they're not very kind to her.

Also has a live action movie that's a lot less suspenseful and more action-y.

I will say I've been liking "I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I'll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time". It sounds like trash, but Cloverworks is working on it. It definitely shows, both in the writing and animation. It's fun, looks good, and is actually a fantasy and not a isekai.

Kinda suprised they never did another movie since you could probably make endless stories out of the material that is there but I looked on wikipedia that the box office was like $3 mil, I don't know if that includes japan aswell so I guess it was just a flop.

I love that movie. Got the ending title card as one of my tattoos as well.

It's pretty unknown, unfortunately, since everytime I go around telling people that they should watch the movie after having finished the series, they always reply:"There's a movie?!"
