There better be backups in place. It's bad enough old /v/ and /vp/ archives have been lost relatively recently that I noticed while I was trying to look for content, not to mention more niche boards.

/vp/ doesn't even have threads that go back that far, let alone images. I posted in the Pokemon thread about a controversy and I am pretty sure I am the only one who saved some of those images, glad I still have them. As for other similar threads around that thread? Probably out of luck.
I'm pretty sure /v/ threads before 2016 are gone fullstop, since I couldn't find archives that go that far back, something about them being reported by asshurt parties(just like now).

"Oldfags" went over to 8chan back in the day, later after that shutdown many gave up and went on social media, back to 4chan, here or even sharty, some quit internet altogether or only go on discord.
As for 4chan, there were several generation of newfags already, each worse than the last, and each holding on to the watered down, flanderized version of 4chan that the previous newfags romanticized. By this point, the "glory days" of /b/ and old /v/ were so long ago that the only point of reference people have from them are r/4chan posts and youtube videos, both obviously not showing any of the juicier content. Just look at "Queen of /b/" Isabella Janke.
4chan as some of us know it has been dead for longer than some of the current users have been using it. It might as well be a mirage by this point since we're never going back to that point in time in culture or the internet.
I would say /pol/ died shortly after the Trump election in 2016, it was already dogshit by the time 8chan shut down and Tarrant shooting came down. Since then, the feds have been clamping down on it harder and accelerated the process of turning it into a tightly controlled honeypot, so that the 8chan /pol/ refugees wouldn't have any impact on the board(which they did to an extent for a very short period of time after 8chan shutdown). Sure enough, by 2020/2021 it was the exact same schizophrenic, incoherent shithole it is now. The only time the board gets even somewhat usable is when Israel gets hit by an attack, same time as when racemixing propaganda and black dicks stop being posted. Worst part is that a new 8/pol/ will never be made, I can only imagine how fast that place would get swarmed with CP spam if it got any sort of traction.
