DesiLu was struggling, despite all it's assets while it was still 50/50 hers and Arnaz's. He was a genius when it came to production, but not so much when it came to the business of production (he came up with the production fundamentals pretty much all sitcoms use, even now 70 years later). Lucy bought out his share and while it took half a decade to fix the company, she dragged it kicking and screaming into profitability. She did this by making sure shows nobody got and would not commit to like Star Trek and Mission Impossible could get made. Paramount is still making bank on those two properties.

She made a decent fortune when she got to that point and sold it and it became Paramount. People tend to only remember her for the candy factory bit or whatever, not for the fact that she had the balls to make things get done in a part of television where women just didn't work.
