I disagree. Both of the Columbine killers had normal parents. Furthermore, Harris and Klebold’s parents were different kinds of normal, so one cannot dismiss them on the basis of political opinion. Harris was a military brat with a nuclear family, homemaker mom, and strong father. Klebold was raised by a middle class interfaith (Christian and Jewish) family that hated firearms. The only thing that the Harrises and Klebolds did that I would consider “dumb” was Mr. Harris helping his son set off explosives. I think dysfunctional families are a common instigating factor, but not causal or essential.

With that said, you might like Joshua Slocum. He definitely shares your opinion and has covered several mass murders through that critical lens. He generally makes the argument that these sorts of shootings stem from Cluster B pathology, usually beginning with the parents. Maybe check out his Rumble or YouTube show, or the audio version on Apple podcasts.
