I’ve never understood the “diverse foods” argument for immigration. Surely that means additional immigrants from the same place have vastly diminishing returns? Like, once you have a few Indian restaurants you can stop?

Imagine for a moment that you are a mid-upper class liberal. Every night, you go to a new activity. You never cook. Your entire concept of food is grounded upon the expectation that someone else will cook for you. The diversity and quality of the local restaurant scene is the single greatest quality of life determinant in your existence.

Yes, your typical "yummy food" liberal is basically a grown child going on play dates every night. If by some miracle they own a house instead of renting, it will be maintained by a maid. They do not know how to change the lightbulbs.

The food argument imo is based on the idea that only people of that race/culture are able to make that kind of food well. "Mexican food made by actual Mexicans", "Chinese food made by actual Chinese", etc. There's some merit to it, but it's due to culture. A random Indian can't magically make better curry than Gordon Ramsey just because they're Indian.
