I do not agree with this. There is a uniquely pioneering attitude in the American ethos which does not exist in European countries. If Americans really were like their ancestors, we'd have EU-type governments - but we don't. This is not to discount the many different roots, but to put your hat up on WASPs does not make sense given how radically different the US is.
