I used to argue hard for the A-10 and the AV8B, but at the end of the day, they're too slow for the modern era. We were just making fun of Columbia's air force the other day, but their propeller driven fighter can outrun an A-10. Even then, a big part of modern dog fighting is whose radar locks on from further away. If we're planning on fighting a real country anytime soon, we should probably ditch the shit that wouldn't make it to the front line before being shot down. We won't be calling in close air support whenever and wherever we want with impunity like Iraq/Afghanistan if shit pops off with Russia, China, or possibly Iran.

My state did the same thing with our state union workers. It worked. Lots of boomers who where top pay scale where just hanging out not thinking about retiring. The take it and get paid now or keep working and get nothing extra choice pushed a lot out of the door and opened up slots for younger people (at the bottom of the pay scale). And on a different subject, suggest the military has AI that is more advanced than the systems being discussed these days. For example, got to try VR headsets in the late 1980s at MITRE Corporation. Have seen things over thirty years ago at certain military research and development conferences that still have not been released to the civilian world.
