This is interesting, because it sometimes goes the other way too. AC Syndicate, for example, had the token fags, token Indian boss, gay diversity shit like that, but some people pointed out that it’s Victorian London was lily White in its NPCs, and the real London had tons of non-Whites around just due to its status as capital of the world and a major port (I think back then).

Likewise, you get genres like Westerns that were made when a retarded, mostly Northern audience found minorities in TV taboo, and so you get this fascinating mix of Indians, Mexicans, White Americans, Blacks, Germans and every other European under the Sun just swept aside until recently. (You see a lot of “Norwegians” in the old black and whites, and it’s kind of coded for German, early Boomers STILL hate Germans instinctively from the WW2 hangover.)

Or you get stuff like random ass White dudes showing up and becoming supreme poobahs in third world countries. Remember how bitchy critics were about the White savior in Dances with Wolves, in The Last Samurai? Tons of shit like that in real life.

How we think about the past can be really different than how it is. What makes this stuff offensive is that it’s never done for sincere, benevolent reasons, and it’s never done well.

Outside of docks, non-whites were actually rare in London up until the post-war period, even in 1961 London was was still just over 97% white British, with the next largest ethnicity being Jewish. Syndicate made sense to a degree because the non-whites in London at the time would absolutely be on the fringes of society.

I stand by my it will Alan Wake 2 it. Where they'll struggle to break even for a year or two. It'll get high praises like Alan Wake did, but ultimately it'll be tepid sales. Not a disaster, just barely breaking even in the end or a bit above the line. Nowhere near as fast as they'd like.

There was a controversy with the main female character where she was replaced with a nigger at the last minute, Sweet Baby Inc was involved. I figure this had a part in the game not doing well, but the rest was the game just being...well, a post-Max Payne Remedy game, ie more of an interactive movie than an actual video game. This lead to mixed feelings from longtime fans and more casual gamers.

KCD2, on the other hand, actively spited it's own fanbase and lied to them. Moreover, there isn't any casual market for a game like this, and never will be unless it's massively dumbed down. I didn't like the nigger in AW2 but then again, I was never the main audience for that game so I didn't hurt the bottom line too much. KCD2 on the other hand is depending on old time fans to push the game into the mainstream, it can't do that on it's own yet.

I think this will be worse than AW2, but not quite as bad as Veilguard. Comparisons to nu-Saints Row are more comparable since I think it will be similarly mocked after launch. If it has competent gameplay then that might save it, but it will always be a joke among it's target audience.
Plus, the schism it will create among people are willing to tolerate the woke elements in the game will lead to the later entries, if it will be made, being even worse and those people being the "new audience". This will still not attract more mainstream players, only further alienate older fans. This game needed to be much more accessible to the wider audience if it wanted to spit on the people who loved the first game, it failed with a rugpull in the most spectacular way.

I disagree, but only because Alan Wake 2 is stuck in the Epic Games store.

I think it will do fine as it broke through the mainstream; I think the biggest problem is that February is packed as fuck. My money is going to Monster Hunter and Yakuza Waky pirate adventures. Still think it will have legs.

KCD2 is not mainstream and it will definitely get slaughtered by Monster Hunter. Since it is primarily a PC game, it will likely get pirated out of spite by the userbase on the biggest platform that matters to the devs. I just don't see this being any sort of success, at best they might make their money back if Vavra didn't spend too much of the company's money on retarded shit.
