If Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 was a video game that came out today, people would be FURIOUS about it being "girly romance stuff that waters down original, and this is because the creators are liberals who clearly hate masculinity and Western civilization and literature".
It's inferior from a musical standpoint. Plus Hunchback of Notre Dame is the best Disney musical. Dragon age is just a mediocre franchise.

I haven't seen anyone post this here. EA officially stated in their press release that the game performed below 50% of approximated expectations
Those numbers have to be way off. Women were heavily represented in the game, and with 3.5 billion women on the planet, it surely must have sold at least a half billion units.

What happened around 2021/2022 that caused it to slowly shift away from that?
It's not what happened in 2021/2022, it's what happened before that.

A lot of the entertainment industry is now infested with ex-tumbler users. If you have seen the way they used to interact with each other and those outside their circles, it's exactly the same.

Snark and disregard for any kind of criticism.

Unfortunately, most people who didn't subscribe to "woke" ideology was pushed out of a lot of art/writing circles on the internet. So while most sane people eventually had to hang up the pen and get real jobs and interact with the real world, the people who had absolutely no life skills continued to signal boost and refer each other to positions in the industries while building up their resume.

This kind of feels like something a lot of people don't talk about - but as someone who was a part of those circles in the early to mid 2010's, I can almost confirm it's the ground zero for everything we see in the media today.

Half of getting a job in the industry is actually having a portfolio, the other half is knowing someone. When you get kicked out of those social circles and eventually have to deal with real life, you can do neither.

Boomer and Gen X writers and designers aging out and being replaced by millenial ones that can't help but drag their fetishes and politics into everything they make. The AAA industry is dominated by radical leftists that can't walk back the last 5 years of their bullshit, so like every brainrotted lib, they get defensive and double down instead.

Zoomers catch a lot of heat for their failings, but no generation in my lifetime has been as socially destructive as the millennials.

Edit: late and gay, the poster above answered perfectly

I used to believe that it was some PR company's doing, but I don't actually know, that was conjecture. Why do you think this trend existed/is ending?
Ending? Because actually lying on your 10-Q form (required financial disclosures) when you're a NASDAQ traded public corporation (like EA) is the kind of shit that gets you sent to prison.

And even then they fudged it as much as they thought they could get away with. No WAY they thought they were actually shooting for a measly 3 million sales after what they were following up with in a previously golden franchise.

Neither answered my question, which was about how businesses stick strictly to a admit-no-mistakes policy for PR and even incorporate it into the game design by deliberately making notoriously bad aspects worse.

That actually makes a lot of sense. So when things go badly and you collectively don't want to accept it in an industry, 8-12 years is the timeframe that it takes for inevitable cracks to surface and the reality check to start approaching.

Because admiting your corporation makes mistakes has never been a thing, ever?

Eventually shuffling around the deck chairs on the Titanic doesn't convince anyone.

You can lie about mistakes all you want, or refuse to admit them, but when you start making increasingly material misrepresentations of fact about earnings and profits and losses to the authorities, the SEC eventually wakes up out of its stupor and takes interest.

From a business side of things, there's a few primary reasons.

1. Like I said earlier - there's no alternative. Anyone who would act professionally and reasonably are off doing other things now.

2. A lot of times, the average consumer doesn't know and doesn't care about what controversial posts made by a game dev or writer. They just want their product and (until recently) it's never hurt the bottom line because it's gone largely under the radar from a majority of their consumer base.

3. A lot of the people in the creative industry belong to the rainbow cult. Holding anyone who isn't a straight white man accountable potentially comes with a larger pushback than whatever some retard posted on twitter.

4. You see it more with larger IPs - both the creatives and suits honestly think that certain IPs are too big to fail. So they just let their "avant garde" creatives say what they want, because they believe they must know something more than the average joe.

5. It's simply that the number 1 rule in corporate America is to never admit a mistake.

and lastly.

6. Corporate doesn't fucking care as long as they see money and number go up.

Like it's one thing for commies to lie and act like it's a good thing for these companies to self-immolate as they don't give a shit about the companies or their games as long as they are spreading the right message, but for the industry commentators to just blatantly ignore the writing on the wall, you'd think there'd eventually come a penance for convincing executives to waste all of this money and good will.

All I'm saying is if there was a guy I trusted to give me financial advice, and one day he started giving me advice that was losing me money with the promise that "it'll hit any day now, you just gotta stay the course and it'll all pay off", but investment after investment continued to crash and burn, and I was getting to the point where I had lost all of my profit and my savings, at a certain point I would not only stop listening to the guy, but I'd also be spreading the word to mutual acquaintances that this guy is just winging it and lying, and that people shouldn't trust him or do business with him, less they want to lose their money.
Remember how unbearable ultra-religious Christians were in the 80s and 90s? Their music sucked, their video games sucked, most of their entertainment sucked, but they didn't care. All forms of art were merely ways to spread The Good Word, and so they were happy to take a loss on those things if necessary. If it saved just one soul (read: got them into Heaven), it was worth it.

Wokies are the same way except there's no forgiveness or redemption in their shitty faux religion.

People will say it's because of woke, or gay or whatever the fuck but let's be honest:

It's just bad writing. It's not because they're gay, or black, or whatever else
No, woke "inclusion" just is bad writing. The reason it's bad writing is a subplot about sex pests getting consumed by their weird fetishes doesn't belong in a medieval fantasy RPG, no matter how "well" you write it. The only place Tumblr gender discourse could conceivably belong is something set in the early 21st century.

>Andromeda is Bioware's last chance
>Anthem is Bioware's last chance
>Veilguard is Bioware's last chance

Think they'll finally be shitcanned? EA has liquidated studios for FAR FAR less, so I remain amazed Bioware is allowed to continue shitting up things. Maybe there's some special backroom dealing or relationship the studio has with EA management that makes things different?

I haven't seen anyone post this here. EA officially stated in their press release that the game performed below 50% of approximated expectations. They hoped it would sell 3 million copies, but it sold 1.5 million. Bioware is most likely getting axed.

Say it with me ladies and gentlemen: get broke, go woke, ultimately croak.

Remember when EA used to buy up game companies, force them to rush development, and then shut them down after the broken games flopped? I remember.
Geez I thought that has just been the status quo with them after the Maxis acquisition. Granted i kind of stopped following or being in the loop regarding gaming after the PS3 era.

People will say it's because of woke, or gay or whatever the fuck but let's be honest:

It's just bad writing. It's not because they're gay, or black, or whatever else

Off the top of my head:

Barrett from final fantasy, arcade Gannon from New Vegas, beloved characters.

You know what they did that this didnt? They didn't make it their entire fucking personality and above all else, they have actual writing

Barrett isn't just IM BLACK. IM OPPRESSED, WAH WAH WAH, no he's a fucking gun arm mounted badass that fights a mega corporation killing the planet

And as for arcade, a child of the enclave who never knew his father born to people trying to hide their past, you literally have to go through the effort and get a perk or go through dialog and pay attention to what he says to know he's gay ("why hasn't some lucky bachelor swept his guy off his feet yet").

That's it. When it comes to this dragon age, the horned character. I don't even know her name. I don't care. Shes literally just there to be "non-binary". Has no substance, is not interesting in the fucking slightest, most people kill her in their playthroughs the moment they get the opportunity.

These games fail, because they're shittily written and just have shit in there to hit some arbitrary quota of gayness and blackness, forgetting that they need a story to go with it.
I mean look at games like Hades 1 & 2. Extremely well-written and voiced dialogue with LGBT sprinkled in. But it doesn’t make it, like you said, their entire identity. They just happen to be gay as part of their character. Not just all they spout every three fucking words.

Fuck DEI and fuck big game corpos.

want to throw 100-200 million dollars or more at a game because they want it to make a billion dollars, instead of throwing 10-20 million at 10 different games hoping to make 20-50 million dollars.
AAA is just Hollywood now, and it has the same issues blockbuster movies have where a large chunk of the budget is not spent in anything remotely artistic or creative but wasted on marketing, corporate bloat and and increasing number of managers and executive middle men. Its a lot of smoke and mirrors to justify burning money away

I have seen several other people in the thread touch on this, but the problem goes beyond just how gay and black all these AAA games are. The primary issue is a lack of talent in the writing and creativity department.

Writing narratives in a way that captivates your audience is an art. It requires quite a bit of nuance and it forces writers to ask themselves ‘How do I make what I want to convey interesting to my target audience?’.

The problem is that the fat cumbrain trannies and faggots that are put in charge of writing this stuff are incapable of nuance and some of the least interesting people alive. Their main personality trait is that they get offended by things online and have weird creepy sex with other gross faggots and trannies. People of this caliber cannot be expected to say or do anything even remotely interesting.
