Interesting thing about how federal employees are paid is that it's adjusted for the area they're working in. Washington DC is the highest paid region in the federal workforce. So I would imagine that there are a number of federal employees that receive DC wages and live in a cheaper area, maybe in a completely different state because they get to work from home with their definitely not a spy Chinese wife.
