I haven't seen anyone post this here. EA officially stated in their press release that the game performed below 50% of approximated expectations. They hoped it would sell 3 million copies, but it 'engaged approximately 1.5 million players'. Bioware is most likely getting axed.

Edit: I personally want to remind you that you don't hate videogame journos enough. Eat shit Jason Schreier, Dragon's crown is still kino.

"Engaged" is an interesting choice of words. Not "sold" or "played," but "engaged"

I'm willing to bet people bought the game and returned it, or shared the game with friends or something. So in reality, the numbers could be far worse than what they're telling us here. Also :story: Fuck you Schreier, better hold that L, homie. We've said it once and keep saying it until the games industry somehow gets its shit together: "Get Woke, Go Broke" isn't just an internet meme, it's literal reality. The minute they catered Dragon Age to troons and weirdos, that game was fucking cooked.

Was there a free trial like you often get with EA games? If so I bet that made up a fair whack of the 1.5m
It was bundled with nVidia cards iirc. They could also be counting the "free" character creator thing they released if they wanted to jew-lawyer-maxx too.

There was a free trial for 5 hours with the full game using their subscription service that they called a demo.

The nvidia bundle was a full game bundled with their geforce now service if you bought a six month long subscription

You can bet your ass that every single one of these are included in the ~1.5M engaged players.
Anyway. Quarterly report will show the actual dollar numbers they made that quarter. Unless someone wants to go to big-boy prison.

EA is big enough that they can spread out the costs and attempt to hide them though.

I don't see them admitting their premier woke propaganda was an unmitigated disaster only second to Concord anytime soon.

How is that cat not already out of the bag? You can soften this, but you can't spin it. You also can't spin the fact they ended support for this crown jewel of a game 89 days after release.

I think the only way they could get anyone excited for Dragon Age now is a reboot similar to Gears of War; forget about the doomed sequels they've created (Gears 4 and 5), go back to the style and characters that drew people into the series. They could do a prequel to Origins about some Grey Wardens desperately trying and ultimately failing to stop the Blight, maybe kill them all but have Duncan be the only survivor.

EA's probably poured too much into Mass Effect to dump it now but if that fails Bioware's definitely getting shittered.
They should go try Halloween 2018 route and shitcan all the sequels and make an actual sequel to Origins.

The gay shit isn't even the worst offender tbh.
AAA treats the player like they're Darksydephil. Characters are flat and aggressively inoffensive, everything is forgettable.

Nothing short of an industry crash will help. Not buying your slop. Scam someone else

This stuff reminds me of the thing that happened with the character Alistair's voice actor for Dragon Age Origins that was supposedly against doing gay dialogue. The voice actor just wasn't into doing that I suppose, but caused a lot of fuss among the playerbase that cared more about the relationship building than the gameplay. But it wasn't a huge issue since the game still had some kind of game going on.

But seems like over time the people behind Dragon Age just leaned into the story aspect so much they forgot they were even supposed to be making games so instead view it as a choose your own adventure story first and foremost where the adventure is optional.

Feel like the only reason Dragon Age really could carry on as it has is because it had so little competition over the years for that semi-turn based combat. After stuff like BG3 it just ends up looking like dog shit when you realize the people behind the game really could have made nearly everything a lot more interesting.

Waiting to be replaced by AI is my guess.

You know EA is going to jump on AI the second its viable.

Artists, programmers, and everything else under the sun are going to get gutted.
The ruling class want to use AI to logjam culture with their ideological bullshit, to force woke crap on people. If they can't get DEI hires to make shitty games with shitty writing, they'll just have AI spew shovelware with the same messages, instead.

We need Unwoke AI to counter Woke AI.

I see Electronic Farts finally finished digesting another one. Took them long enough.

Well, no.

They can somewhat shift costs and profits between divisions to make one division look better than another, though it is risky.
But if they try to hide or fabricate actual revenue for the company in the quarterly report or misrepresent the financial, that is absolutely going to either
1, have executives and whoever signed off the report got to prison. SEC do not take this kindly.
2, massive pierce the corporate veil class action lawsuits against the executives personally for anyone that lost money on their stock investments.
3, most likely: both

You can not lie to shareholders or the SEC. You just can not.
