Mega Rad Gun Thread

Got my VP9 Match kit in the mail. I wish I could find the match striker assembly on its own, whatever they did made the trigger much better, its not just the nickel plating or whatever finish they used on the firing pin, possibly a lighter striker safety spring, too. Put an ultramatch trigger return spring from HK parts into my otherwise stock VP9 lower it and it feels really nice, though the reset isn't nearly as positive as with the factory spring, I'll have to go to the range before I decide if I don't like it.

Kit didn't come with the 20 round mags (booo), but I've already got a handful of 17 rnd mags, and I don't really have any plans to do competitive stuff with it so maybe I'll get those later.

The VP9 Match kit comes with the complete upper (only one recoil assembly, the blue one) and a pack of spare O-rings for the barrel. Sights are elevated suppressor/optic co-witness XS Big Dot Sights. A big super luminous green dot up front (like the original factory luminous sights, but seem to hold its charge a little longer) and a blacked out serrated rear.

I was sort of jealous of a fellow shooter's Canik TP9 SFx, and this kit was cheaper. The TP9 still has a better trigger, which of course it does, its a turkroach P99, but I trust this to be a bit better in the long run.
I'd rather have any kind of HK than a Canik

yesterday was the first day suitable to hunting after more than a month of arctic cold, over a foot of snow and several inches of ice. I set out at dawn with my trusty Merkel SxS in search of rabbit and squirrel. Didn't see either unfortunately but it was nice to be able to walk the mountain with out risking my life by walking on ice.

I did take a pot shot on a crow at about 35-40 yards. Did not connect unfortunately. I'll get the bastard next time.

I can't be the only person who never watched Demo Ranch, right? I had no idea he was so popular and had multiple successful channels. Guy seems financially very well off, so I'm sure he'll be fine without doing YT anymore.
it was content for kids just getting into the sport via vidya and normies. for what it was, it was good. the only content i viewed from him was the series on exploring the caves under his ranch.

I tend to enjoy the older military surplus guns. Muh woodnsteel and all.

That said, what never ceases to amaze me is the price people are willing to pay for k98k rifles.

This is a basic, bolt action rifle, which had around 14 million made. The only markings found on these rifles are essentially a serial number, manufacturers code, and very small proof marks. Yet, for some reason, people will pay well into the 1000-1200 figures for one of these rifles.
To put it into perspective, the FN manufactured Ethiopian mausers, only had about 25 thousand rifles total. They each have a large lion of judah proofmark, a large Ethiopian national crest across the receiver, and are in an interwar pattern.
Yet, even very nice condition examples, when they do come up for sale, only reach around $800.

There are many other examples of much rarer and (imo) more interesting mausers that dont even touch k98k prices, and the whole affair baffles me.

He's a veterinarian in his dad's practice. So safe to say he was pretty well set up from the get go to make the mega bucks.

I never cared for his channel, personally. Mainly because I'm not a fan of guns being used to do dumb shit/dumb shit being done with guns. And I seem to have a natural distaste of family coat tail riders.

It’s the German Quality meme.

It’s the same reason why H&K is held in such a high regard compared to FN, despite both of them being roughly on par which each other.

I don't know about that. I mean, FN makes plenty of stuff that goes toe to toe with H&K, but as far as having a consistent history of excellent QC and producta that are both innovative and actually turn out to be good/relevent 15years later? H&K has them beat.

Just look at the history of FN pistols vs H&K pistols.

Well not sure I agree with that. Both of them have good products, some are better than other company's corresponding ones, some are on par. Where H&K might have FN beat on pistols, FN runs circles around H&K when it comes to machine guns. I know the 416 is very popular, but SCAR is not a bad rifle either. And in some procurements has beat the 416 as well.

No doubt, FN makes the 240, the SCAR, excellent ARs, pretty sure the 249 is another FN product off the top of my head. FN might be in the running for GOAT as far as supplying quality firepower to the freeworld.

But I think H&K surpasses them with actual innovation. Roller delay, polymer, whatever the fuck was going on with the G11, doing piston ARs right, etc.

I do think the SCAR is more innovative vs 416, but the 416 keeps getting the contracts. Its just more friendly to mass issue then the SCAR is, which really shines with some personal touch. I think in that case the HK hypetrain is getting them contracts.

If Gew/Kar 98s and DWM/Mauser/Loewe export mausers came even close to the same prices id agree with you (and lets not even start on gew 88s that often fetch bottom bin prices), but that isnt the case. Gew/Kar 98s fetch similar prices, but are much rarer in the original configuration that brings those prices (though some of that german=better meme persists ill admit). Argies and Chileans don't fetch anywhere near the same prices, nor do the pre oviedo spanish mausers.

. . . But I think H&K surpasses them with actual innovation. Roller delay, . . .
Roller delay isnt all that innovative insofar as its an HK product. Roller delay started in the sequel to the STG 44, the cleverly named "STG 45". Post war, german engineers went to spain, and developed the Cetme series of rifles, which are virtually the same rifle as the G3, when said engineers went to HK, along with the Cetme technical data package, and made the G3.
Innovatively german? Sure
Innovatively HK? Not by a long shot.

k98k rifles

Nazi tax.

It's only half a joke, but personally anything Third Reich I've ever seen has the Nazi tax. All the other Mausers can even be of German production or of similar quality, but they aren't from WW2 Germany and do not hit the same "popular value" as other guns. We may be decently read and know the value of a WW1 98az or a Persian Mauser (and you're right the Ethiopian ones are awesome in their decorations) and appreciate it, but it's all common that people just want teh nazeeeh gun. It's the same reason people try to sell off Stechkins or PM63s as "special operation" or "Stasi guns" instead of back-up weapons for vehicle crews and the like, because they're selling a dream. Or a meme. Like all Mosins are always "sniper variants" "sniper barrel" "matching".

And of course there are the legit K98k collectors that specifically want every year, every factory, every model. I've met a couple of those. Those are excused.

I call my FNX 45 the "USP 45 Tactical at home" for a reason. Lul.

I mean, yeah its a good gun and all, and it has more features than the USP (larger mags, Pic rail, an optics cut), but the USP still has a better trigger (well my HK45 does) and the HK45 shoots a bit softer, but I can only really tell when I shoot them back to back. Accuracy is a wash, and longevity is TBD, but I picked up my FNX used, and my first experience with it was as a jamm-o-matic, as I had neglected to really clean and lube the gun before I took it out for its first spin. Seems like the guy who traded it in ran a can on it until it got so dirty that it began to malfunction and just dumped it. It's fine now, of course.

The "squishy" magwell of the FN is overblown, imho, and mostly due to cramming 15 rounds of 45 into such a limited space. You're not really going to be collapsing the sides of the grip in with a proper grip, with a magazine in the gun, you can only really pinch it together a bit at the bottom.

I like my VP's too much to even give the FN striker pistols a fair shot, which is too bad, as they seem to be fairly good pistols, just in a saturated market full of good options.

I would like FN to drop an FNX in 10mm, the amount of good 10mm DA/SA options is pretty much limited to the EAA Witness pistols.

I was with a friend and we rented that fnx pre pimp. I thought it would be a nice enough gun made to over sell to Leo/mil and cawadooty kids.

But man it was a VERY well laid out weapon. Legitimately impressed and liked it. Not in marketplace for something like it and when they came out only in fde (can that trend stop) but damn FN hit a home run with it.

Saw a YouTuber shoot one of those rti carcano converted guns. He down loaded it a bunch.

If you don't hear from me after Saturday, my luck wasn't as good.

My FNX is black. I actually wanted the baby poop tan one, but the price was right for mine, as it came with a Vortex on top, too.
