In a fantasy, it would just be a matter of using a magic spell, potion, or whatever. But that way, they couldn’t force you to watch, and get all those twitter/reddit asspats now could they?
It's a little of both. Forced voyeurism and strongarming people into participating in the fetish is a load-bearing part of the programmer socks-style autogynephilia and the fanfiction consoomer-style autoandrophilia classes of troonery. When someone with that brainworm writes for a game, it can't just be a magic potion + no longer a problem for me. The act of "transformation", the attention-seeking "look at how HAWT I am now!", the traumadumping all over strangers, is something you see a hundred percent of the time with this particular mental illness.

Here's the thing, you can have all that shit in your game and it's perfectly fine, noone'll care or be upset.
Sadly this is true. Boil the frog slow. Most people who would inherently care are pretty unlikable too so would toxify their own message, unless what they’re criticizing is so brutally overt it deserves an unsubtle response.

I don't 100% believe that. Most of the time it's "OMG THEY PUT A SILLY SLIDER IN MY CHARACTER CREATOR! WOKE!", Dustborn is like the only true example I can think of which seems legit imo. I feel the idea of "Wokeness in videogames" is a smokescreen for "Well actually the whole game sucks but we won't say why outside of political shit."

Bad games are bad, woke or not.
You can have a mediocre game, then put jiggle physics and big boobs and it may do well. You can also have a good game that has some woke stuff on it and do well.

But a mediocre game that is also woke... Recipe for disaster.

Many such cases.
Are you alright lilbro? You're having a shitfit but lack the ability to express yourself.
This is true, but obsessive stickering is too lolcow behavior. So is the circle of autism.
Nigger, it takes all of 0.8 seconds to press the sticker button, a basic function that exists to react to posts on the forum.
Obsessive lolcow behaviour is you seething about me to other posters itt even though I don't even remember if I ever interacted with you.
I've noticed he likes slapping me with trash cans on my posts, seemingly at random and for no good reason other than I've probably made him mad at some point and he's never gotten past it.
Lilbro, you're crying about stickers thinking there's some Machiavelian motivation for being given a trashcan.

I know nothing about Veilguard other than people think it sucks (a rundown would be nice, because all I gather is that its woke and I have been looking for more). However, regarding EA: if they dont shut down Bioware it will be astounding to me. I'm 37 years old, EA has literally been snapping up good developers and studios since I was in middle/high school and immediately ruining them and shutting them down forever. This has been going on for decades and even happened when the games were successful. If Bioware somehow stays around after this. that would be nuts.

Assuming another DA game comes out at all, it won’t be until the 2030s. Who is even going to remember DAV at that point. Who is going to remember Inquisition or Origins and DA2? Like, who would the game even be for?

People that really really want to know why the Qunari came to Thedas? People that want to see the chronological end of the dragon age? Like in video game terms you may as well be talking about a half century or more.

No one will remember DA or care by the time BioWare is able to do another game.

That article is absolutely deranged, from the foundational argument that Veilguard was any good, to its stultifying wokeness not being an issue, to the jab about Mass Effect being "fashy." Video game journalists continue to impress.

Yup. Baldur's Gate 3 was woke as fuck. It had body types instead of sexes, you could make your guy "non-binary", you select pronouns, it had the option to build chicks-with-dicks and other mis-matched forms of sex characteristics, it had more penis options than vagina options, it had a they/them incubus, everyone's playersexual.
If woke tomfoolery is in a game that's a critical and commercial success, no one cares. Winning cures everything.
I wonder whether we'll ever get male/female in character creation back. There is nothing that should stop devs from abandoning "Type A/B", since everyone knows what A and B are supposed to represent and it's retarded to pretend that if we avoid the words "male" and "female", sex is not real.
There must be some stupid pressure of "not wanting to offend anyone" since I cannot think of any game in the last few years without Type A/B shit, even if it otherwise doesn't have any gender stuff or genital customization or whatever.

They call it fashy in the same line where they praise Bioware's commitment to the cause (being gay) to the point where their ideas got shut down and their games morally panicked over
"BioWare has always been the socially progressive RPG studio. Mass Effect's Bush-era fashy militarism aside, BioWare has prioritized LGBTQ representation in particular for more than 20 years, with a furtive stab at a lesbian romance in 2003's Knights of the Old Republic quietly vetoed by LucasArts."
The shifts in the overton window by overly smug game journos will never get old

I agree, I also think it'd be cool to make female or male PCs matter more in game, like maybe there's groups of monks or nuns that you can only join if you're a certain sex, maybe a certain NPC will only tell certain information to a female PC and lie to a male one, gay NPCs will reject romance with you if you're not the same sex as them. Limits lead to interesting and dramatic situations in RPGs. I don't think people find any of this stuff offensive, really.

You're suggesting that players would have to play the game more than once on multiple characters to see all the content? Sir, that's about as hateful as it gets.

Here is your rundown, bro

BTW the actual gameplay is barely there, you're playing a one hour game stretched over the course of several dozen hours. Combat never evolves and is piss easy, there is no nuance to it, companions are literally just portable abilities with cooldowns(they can't even die in combat), and "puzzles" are something more akin to telling a toddler to put a square in a square shaped hole than anything else. Dialogue, worldbuilding, characters and story could salvage a shitty game, but, well...

I have never heard anyone call Mass Effect a fascist game, but then again this is a PC Gamer article so I can just assume this was written by a retard that doesn't actually play any video games

Blackrock money and backlash for not using it. In theory, there is no reason not to use Male/Female in character creation, but in reality companies don't care enough about the customer to risk even something as simple as this. Anyone who puts A/B in their menu is not your friend, I don't care if it's someone "based" like Nintendo or From Studios, they're still in on it.

I came here to post something much more long-winded but you summed up my feelings so eloquently that I won't bother. People are willing to tolerate things they don't like if the experience is overall enjoyable. But if the experience is a bad one, those things they don't like suddenly become homing beacons for their ire. Wokeness just happens to be one of the biggest lightning rods for that effect right now.

You would think, but rot-brained leftists truly believe that gatekeeping anything from the players is ableist or sexist or whatever the new -ist they conjure up in their mind. This shit is how we got Trannyguard, by and by, where they sanded down everything that could have been offensive.

I wouldn't doubt it, because the number of people who misunderstand Ashley's point of view in the first game alone ("Shepard, we shouldn't trust these aliens, we don't know if they have humanity's best interest in mind" turned into "1488 RACE WAR NOW GENOCIDE ALL ALIENS" ) assured me that half of the people who ostensibly are a fan of this genre are functionally illiterate.

Larian makes good rpg games, because at the end of the day, they know players wanna roleplay.

Larian just makes games that gives you the freedom.

If only bioware took notes
I don't think BioWare ever had much in terms of freedom; you're there for the ride. The decisions might change some of the things you see on the ride but every player gets to the same place.

Self-preservation instincts equal racism and racism is super hecking baddy bad, that's all there is to it. These people have mindset of children, I mean just look at the dialogue in Veilguard.
