Earlier in this thread, I mentioned how democracy is treated less like a system of governance but more like a god. I said that as a joke but the more I think about it that isn't far off from the truth. Anytime that there is political figure that has a opinion that is slightly to the right, they are labeled as a threat to democracy and must be silenced, any time you say some edgy jokes labelled as a threat to democracy, and so on. The left despite its hatred of religion has created a new religion without even thing about it, and their god is democracy, the heretics are the far right and the minortioes are the priest caste you can't criticize or be punished. The far right in this case is anyone who is normal effectively, the irony in all of this is that a democracy is meant to allow everyone a voice and yet the current religion of democracy has cut the toungs out of millions.

That's because it is. Like all shitty ideas, we have the French Liberals to thank for that. Rousseau and Voltaire in particular conceptualized the State as not an item or property in the possession of a people or a King, but rather as an entity in itself in possession of its people. I really damning inversion that once you let it play out leads to some pretty shitty outcomes. But the French are going to French. It's just a shame so many people listen to them.

When you get to the point where you're carrying an ID tag around your neck so that security identifies you even though you're a student there, the problem isn't the students, it's how the school is being structured.

COVID pretty much gave every school carte blache to turn into prisons for kids and teens. All that's missing are the bars on the windows. And even after COVID, it still stuck for "security reasons".

I get not wanting pedos and/or another columbine, but this is absolutely not the right way of doing things. it's like the "adults" don't realize this is fucking the students up long-term mentally and emotionally.

The prison analogy is sadly spot on. High schoolers these days listen to my tales of casually ditching school halfway through the day by just walking out a side door with the same sort of “wtf that can’t be real” attitude I had when GenX would tell teenage me about the school smoking lounge.
