Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

-NewPipe: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.schabi.newpipe/
Perfect for phones and tablets. Also works on Android TV devices but navigation can be cumbersome.
the Newpipe dev team are a bunch of insufferable fags. Use a Newpipe fork instead
https://github.com/polymorphicshade/Tubular - has return youtube dislike, wordfilters, and sponsorblock
https://github.com/InfinityLoop1308/PipePipe - same as above but for weeaboos and Chinkoids

sort of a cracked/spoofed version of Youtube premium with higher quality videos and no ads. You need to log in with a gmail account for it though

If you don't know how to set up an ad blocker, you deserve to have your time wasted. It genuinely baffles me just how many people have no clue how to install an ad blocker. Nuisance aside, blocking ads is just generally a good security practice.

I work in a tech field. There are techs at my job that somehow made it through 4 years of engineering tech school while never being introduced to the idea of an ad blocker. I show them how to install a browser extension and their mind is blown. Fkin zoomers, man.

YouTube stands out to me for growing increasingly shitty over the years. It really is two decades worth of blunders at this point.

On my home PC and laptop, I use Brave and never see ads ever. On my work laptop where I don't have user rights to install Brave, I use Ublock on Chrome. Once in a while it will try to show me an ad but it doesn't load. I click another video then click the back browser button, video loads fine with no ad.

It literally looks like a minecraft playthrough video.

Several years back I had youtube feed me a random, non-commercialized video as an ad a couple of times. I thought it might have been because I keep my google preferences and history sanitized, the algorithm glitches out and has absolutely no idea what to show me.
Maybe they're expecting people to fall asleep and let the motherfucker play for the entire time.

If someone tries to make me watch a 60 minute ad, I will kill them. I refuse to be hinged and sane about this.
And yet people will pay to watch branded movies in a theater.

I use brave to watch YT. I used to love newpipe but it won't load videos any more as of a week or two ago. It always had issues but usually they'd go away if you retried loading it once or twice. Sigh

Internet browsers:
Mullvad also makes an internet browser with native Ublock origin built in. It natively skips ads like brave does, and supposedly (when used with a VPN) makes it harder to browser fingerprint what you do online. I use Brave and Mullvad.

*note the reason this browser has "a funny border" is that the creators are trying to prevent you monitor resolution from being known to websites, and thus add to your browser fingerprint.

Movies at least we know there’s gonna be ads and can show up late if we don’t want to watch them
This bullshit move on the otherhand…

Unless the company is some massive eldritch multinational you can't truly avoid like Coca-Cola or Nestle, such long ads will just drive people away from their products. I hope, anyway.

Easiest way to avoid ads on Jewtube? Use the right extensions and simply don't log in using your account.

Ghostery seems to work well. I occasionally get that popup that "Ad blockers are not permitted" but it's like maybe once a week.

It's an arms race at this point. Each time Youtube finds a way around the ad blockers the guys that make the ad blockers patch that hole.

YouTube now can show you 60-minute unskippable ads
When people did the "10 HOUR UNSKIPPABLE AD ON A 3 SECOND VIDEO" memes back in 2021-2022, it was just for the funny not for jewtube to take it as a fucking challenge.

I swear, if you're a big company nowadays you automatically enter the "Biggest Nigger Ran Company" contest.

I'm honestly surprised they don't have a regulation on how long ads must be to allowed on the platform, but then again I don't think even the FCC has any guidelines for it either except for children's TV.
There are laws about this kind of thing. Remember Elsagate? That shit didn't happen decades ago, because the company that broadcast it would've been held responsible.

The only real innovation of Google and its ilk is skirting government regulations.

Sorry Uncle Sam, we're too big to know what we're doing, and we're using computers, so whatever we do is okay.

If I had a button that killed every past and present Google employee, and all of its direct owners and executives, but which killed the person who pressed it, I'd press it anyway.
