Give me my puzzle pieces but the shortest summary is the concept of a "Founding Myth" as almost all of American history of meaning and our moral fabric, ideals and perception to the layperson and various media is pegged to the ending of WW2 and everything before that is seen as footnotes or window dressing. It's actually an established phenomena where history becomes more or less ethereal to people's perceptions except for big signposting moments defining eras and setting the tone and stage for future perceptions and comparisons.

People not from here also leverage WW2's mythos and narrative to sell ideologies to Americans, because most of us have relatives who fought in the war, and that we actually met. The Civil War is too far back for many people to trace an ancestors to easily but there's a much higher chance your grandpa fought in WW2.
