Every time I see images of the new Spiderman, I sometimes wish they’d bring back Spectacular Spiderman, but then I remember what Weisman did to Young Justice for their season 3+4, and dread to think about what they’d do to it now. As a wiseman once said: Sometimes, dead is better.
That situation flew under everyone's radar, as I saw no discussion of it, but it was insane. He became completely unhinged—a true "TSD mask-off" moment, revealing himself as a woke cultist extremist.
He’s probably too boring for a lolcow thread, except maybe in the Media section (I’ve been tempted to document his insanity but never found the time). However, he does have a lot of skeletons in his closet that make him not criminal, but extremely creepy. For instance, he has described the sexual acts of his characters in detail. He was "woke" before woke reached its peak. One example is how, in one of the shows he adapted, he turned a canonically straight girl into a lesbian (after a quick Google search, I found it was Irma from
W.I.T.C.H.). Did I mention that he punished his fans by refusing to answer their questions, only posting one character a day that exists on his show instead, after one fan confronted him about how he ruined his show with woke nonsense?
If I recall correctly, he even described the sexual lives of his Gargoyle's characters. HBO’s
Young Justice’s last two seasons finally showed him without any network interference, and it was terrible. The HBO Max version of
Young Justice had a quiet death, but it included insane elements that even alienated the people he was trying to pander to. For example, there was a non-binary Muslim lesbian character (I know it sounds ridiculous, but it’s true), beloved villains turned into blatant Trump stand-ins, unironic endorsements of superheroes being cucked, and polygamy—not to mention unsubtle lecturing about religion. He also turned previously super-straight characters gay for no reason.
Even if you’re okay with all of that, you have to admit that the constant lectures and political messaging weren’t what people signed up for in a fun superhero show. And that's not even getting into his non-political issues, such as refusing to finish storylines that fans had waited years for, leaving them unresolved, using mystery boxes to bait the network into giving him more seasons, and endlessly introducing more superheroes that he could handle, all while neglecting the core cast. It was a mess.
Weisman has a good reputation, but people have no idea how much executives had to keep him in check and prevent him from pushing his non-audience-friendly ideas. He’s not someone who should be given free rein.
Spectacular Spiderman fans have no idea how lucky they are he can't ruin their show.It's a blessing in disguise.
