Yep, that's the main difference for sure. Even that day the NYT odds had Hillary slightly up until afternoon. There was legit crying and shock at the Hillary rally and all over. I don't really think that many liked Harris or really truly expected her to win.

The reaction this time was mostly just performative memes, women weren't 'swearing off sex' and cutting their hair on social media. It was a few nuts doing that this time, but they were the big reaction story.

I wasn't that into 2016 as much as this one. I thought Hillary was 60/40 odds winning. 2020 I figured 60/40 Biden winning. This time 65% sure Trump would. The left's confidence in 2016 and 2020 was intense, this time was a wet blanket for the dems.

At the risk of sounding cringe, it was like seeing an anime. You had the heroes, villains, side characters, entire arcs, and you could understand it even if you weren't into politics. 4chan wasn't as sterilized as it is today, so frog/kek posting wasn't absolutely beaten into the dirt or associated with the catboys like it is today. It was a fun time, as for the election day itself I was sure he would win both times. It was much more intense 8 years ago since Hillary had some sort of support and the left were fired up, now with Kamala? Not a chance in hell, and the left were like beaten dogs. Nobody even tried cheating until the very end, when they were caught, people wouldn't have any of it again. It was definitely surprising, but not unexpected that certain states flipped, absolutely nobody wanted Kamala and it showed. It was a much tighter(and interesting) race in 2016, so it felt more rewarding when Trump won.
