Careful, cope this pure could easily kill you if you haven't built up a tolerance to it.

An actual admission that they did indeed kill their own franchise. Amazing, any halfway competent studio would never admit to failure like this and simply hope their next product would win back the graces of fans and customers, but even nu-Bioware diversity hires know that this ship has now truly left the port.

“It’s not dead, you’ve got fanfic”

Yep, there is never going to be a DA5.

I mean in some sense it’s patronizing it as it is pitiful.

Yes there will always be fanfic. But fanfic isn’t the same thing as the official product. Even the most enthusiastic fanfic writers know that.

And eventually yes-fanfic is forgotten. Its audience is much smaller. If it makes someone feel better, sure. But at the end of the day, it’s just not the same thing.

I think what they mean by this is quite literally anyone could have written better story or characters than they did. It's an admission of failure.

No she clearly means fanfic.

I think what changed is the passions that drove people into making games. 40 years ago you got into games either because you cared about exploring the technology or you wanted to make the kind of fun experiences you'd always wished you could play. I don't think it's a coincidence so many early PC games were basically just the dev's re-purposed D&D campaigns.
I think the issue is simply the writers having too much control over the game and not being as interested in the adventure aspect. They want to focus on their writing and creating an interactive movie, rather than create an adventure that the player enjoys. But at the same time, they're really mediocre writers so it can't even achieve the same status as some walking simulators.

I do agree in general with you and with the New Vegas example, but I think people are either wilfully ignoring parts of BG3 or are way more progressive than the average KF user. I enjoyed my playthrough of BG3 up until the climax of Act 2 where one of the most obnoxious dykes in all of gaming takes a massive dump all over what had otherwise been the best part of the game. Dame Aylin is such rubbish that it should've tanked public perception of that game but it didn't.
People can look past the flaws in BG3 because there's still a fun game beyond that. Aylin may have been annoying, but you get some entertaining fights that make that easy to ignore.

That's the thing - woke alone isn't going to kill your game, at least not usually, but it's a combination of factors that exacerbate each other - leftists crawling their way into the industry leads to a purge of talent that had created said industry, leads to hiring unqualified diversity hires that have neither the skill nor the talent to deliver a quality product, which in turn leads them to lash out at the audience as a way to blame their fuckups on a convenient scapegoat.

As others have said, there is a severe lack of quality leaders in these companies. People that know games, know what gamers want, and have the leadership to wrangle retards among their workforce, instead of allowing them to run amok and jizz their personal fetishes all over the project. And not just in terms of project leads, but even CEOs, that are either deliberately ignorant of what is going on, or just apathetic, feeling safe in the knowledge that they'll have jumped ship to some other company before all their bad decisions finally catch up.

There's also a lack of good engineers - one result of gaming transitioning into a more established, corporatized industry, is that it has driven away all the passionate autists that would have been willing to take a hit on their paycheck and crunched themselves to the bone to achieve some impressive technical feat. Now all those people simply go work in more profitable industries because they know the dumbfuck MBAs in charge will never let them loose, and even if they did, the retarded woke monkeys on the team would do everything in their power to sabotage the project (both intentionally and unintentionally).

Which lets me segway into the third aspect - the industry is held hostage by leftists that are extremely hostile to the primary demographic (straight, White and East Asian men), and will go out of their way to antagonize and insult them. A well-written story (or coom bait) can help an otherwise mediocre game find its audience (see Legacy of Kain or Dead or Alive Xtreme), but so many companies have made it abundantly clear, very publicly, that they don't want the one demographic that has kept the industry chugging along for the past 50 years.

Okay maybe unpopular opinion, but my favorite origins playthrough remains the female city elf.
Same. First playthrough was a City Elf. I killed the nobleman, then absolutely took the whole blame for it so Soris didn't get in trouble for my actions. I felt bad for my betrothed, Nelaros though. For roleplay reasons, I kept my wedding dress and ring in my Tabris' inventory the entire game. For her it was a reminder of what she had lost that day. A life she could never live again. It was her own Memento Mori.

The second opening that stuck with me was playing as a Male Dwarven Noble. Coming back to Orzammar later is such a gut punch. Though, I always end up siding with Bhelen as a Noble Dwarf because of sweet sweet petty revenge. Your Dwarven Noble becomes a Living Paragon, a Pillar of Dwarven Society. No matter what Bhelen does, no matter his policies, he will always be overshadowed by you being a Paragon. I think that it's the best revenge possible for the lil shit to seethe about.

The average Reddit fan of this game that imagines herself as blonde, hot Mahariel (complete with six zillion mods to make the Warden super glowing) with Alistair losing their collective virginities together: "I WUD RATHER LET DIE THAN TO LET MY INKYBOO PRECIOUS BE TOUCHED BY THAT WHORE MORISLUT!!!!!!!!!!!"
I feel like such a statistical outlier to this. I romanced Alistair with my (above mentioned, unmodded) Redheaded City Elf Tabris. She made him do the dark ritual with Morrigan, then marry Anora to unify Fereldan. With the very firm understanding she keeps her affair with Alistair quite under wraps, as per Anora's request. I would say she was pragmatic about the situation. Part of me thinks her and Anora could have ended up good friends, much to Alistair's dismay I am sure.

I did marry Alistair as a Female Cousland once but it felt cheesy as hell to me. I think I prefer the inverse. When you play a Male Cousland, then marry Anora for yourself instead. Sorry, Alistair buddy, Loghain just has a cooler voice than you.

This stuff reminds me of the thing that happened with the character Alistair's voice actor for Dragon Age Origins that was supposedly against doing gay dialogue. The voice actor just wasn't into doing that I suppose, but caused a lot of fuss among the playerbase that cared more about the relationship building than the gameplay. But it wasn't a huge issue since the game still had some kind of game going on.
Do you have a source for that or are you confusing him with Greg Ellis? Steve has been very vocal about Alistair and the fans. Also he's a magician in addition to an actor which....well.......

Greg did some unhinged rants in character and got Bioware on his ass. (Of course this was after he ended up going missing and the child endangerment stuff)

This applies equally well to Bioware.

I think there’s an interesting study on how RPGs allow you to do be both?

Boys can play Shepherd and girls can be Shepherd? If that makes sense?

Especially blank slate characters-allow you to project more of yourself into the character.

The actual game however was mainly developed by men with a male demographic in mind. The female option was just that an option. It wasn't developed by women for a female demographic.

I mean, but then even DAV is for a male demographic then?

It’s mostly a combat game(way more combat than other DA games actually), loads of boss fights, etc…

Hell-women have complained that Rook is a glorified third wheel and the romance parts of the game are underbaked.

Point being video games and toys are entirely two separate things. As much as DA appeals to female players, structurally and in terms of what the game actually entails minute to minute-is still with males in mind.

Jason Schreier has been an ambulance chasing DEI snake oil salesman since the early 2010s. He's gaming's Jim Cramer. I dunno why anyone pretends he's a serious figure with serious opinions and not just a vibes-based shitflinger waiting for the next ActiBlizz-tier wahmen disrespecting controversy so he can write another book for the NYT to astroturf.
For those not in the know, Jason Schreier intentionally hid the Blizzard sex scandals for years because he was good friends with the guys there, they constantly fed him leaks, and was writing a tell all book about the situation. In exchange, he played gatekeeper to ensure big damaging leaks never got posted. It was only when people bypassed him to get the information out that the story broke.

He intentionally hid the accusations of NeoGAF's owner (which, given ResetERA was created in the chaos, I believe was confirmed to be a bullshit power grab by the mods to steal his website that failed) because he didn't want GamerGate to get credit for breaking the story.

I also remember some story -- it might have been the Blizzard one for all I know -- that broke without his permission or what have you, and he tut-tutted the people involved for leaking a story without going through him like proper leakers should.

He's not just an ambulance chasing DEI snake oil salesman. He's not only a bagman for the woke crowd. He's not only a gatekeeper that protects the corpos from stories he doesn't want out there... He's a massive, massive, MASSIVE piece of shit, who would happily leave women in danger as long as the wrong kind of people would get credit for saving them and until he might profit off of it.

Gooner games should be propped up just because they piss off the left, but at the same time they're not healthy either. A real predicament...

Though I've seen Stellar Blade labeled as such when it's not really, the default costume is fine and she doesn't seem explicitly sexualized in the story.
The source of it is particularly annoying. It wasn't Stellar Blade I don't think, but someone posted a clip of one of those Korean games, with the camera wedged at the girl's ass, a skimpy costume selected, and the idle animation causing her to jiggle. Typical harmless high school gooner shit, yeah? But then one of the righty influencers, Melonie Mac I think, replied saying that it was a bit creepy or stupid, and boy fucking howdy, it was on, because thou shalt not criticize thy based Koreaboo jiggle games.

In reality I'm reminded of the desperate attempt to get a "leader of GamerGate" to be created -- and how they wanted Ethan Ralph to be it. And how they wanted @FROG to be the " Leader of ComicsGate." Since this is all ostensibly part of "GamerGate 2", it's an old op -- get a wedge issue and break the community in two over it. Works great if you can assign a leader with real or perceived baggage, but any wedge issue works. So now we have "GoonerGate" distracting people and wasting everyone's energy.

Stellar Blade is actually run of the mill oh-so-Korean as far as "sexiness" goes. There are many Korean and Japanese games in various genres that allows one to dress the female characters up in all kinds of provocative and revealing costumes, and a number are far more up there and out there than this game.

It's just that the Resetera, X, and Bluesky tards and the "game journalists" have enforced such a Puritanical uglification of female characters that people take one look at that game like a thirsty person in a desert and lap it all up. It's an otherwise relatively tame game as far as "sexualization" goes, all things considered.

Then again, everything looks NC-17 when you compare it to the man-faces and man-hands of the US games these days.
One important thing to remember about Stellar Blade is that their developers literally found two female devs in their team were members of that Feminist Terrorist Cult, Magalia or whatever. There was some bruhaha about them finding them and firing them for it, with implication they were attempting to sabotage / subvert the game's development. That, I believe, is part of the reason why the game got so much seething hate from the lefty tards in the west -- the people in the devteam who were supposed to "fix" the game's female characters were open and unceremoniously fired when they tried the same shit the lefty types do in the left, and you aren't allowed to fire activists! That sets a bad precedent!

Playing through BG3 now (late to it I know). It’s good. Is there faggotry or weird “nu-soy” designs like Karlach? Sure, but at no point am I forced to seriously engage in it. Think the only part where it was noticeable so far (just about finished act 2 beating Kethric) was when one of those male deep gnomes go “my husband” in late Act 1. Rest of it, don’t really need to engage in it.
BG3 originally had a bug (x to doubt) that was causing romance options to trigger WAY easier than it should have. They patched it in late 2023 to tone it down, but if you played it before then, then it was entirely possible (and common) for your character to have random gay shit thrown at them out of the blue, because as someone earlier in the thread said, all the male characters are Tumblrina Fujoshi bait and everyone, eeeeveryone, in the game is bi.

They banned the guy who disabled LGBT romance options in a mod off Nexus, of course.

The amount of young conservatives who go into IT or art or music or what have you used to be tiny. In the 2000s, young conservatives were pushed into useless business programs or some kind of trade because "muh real men do manual labor and/or jewish finance tricks." Art was seen as some faggy shit that didn't make money and tech was faggy coastal shit for nerds, so conservatives steered clear.
i don't believe that for gaming, for the arts its just a natural consequence of nepotism, the A-team was an entirely conservative show then there's guys like Stallone or Arnie who would somewhat conservative, but an industry was built in a certain way and was too entrenched to let conservatives in. there's no studio system for video games though, or at least there wasn't. plus libertarian-right should be naturally into video games where you have a lot of freedom, i think its just that conservatives wouldn't bother dealing with the hassle that comes with making games, its such a uniquely autistic hobby.

the type of people that are conservative just won't go into gaming, usually. FNAF being a notable franchise because of the creator and sole game maker.
that most people currently alive wouldn't even recognize their names.
exactly, in the 80s Xerox, Kodak, & IBM were as well known as Google, Apple, and Microsoft are today. hell we had entire industries that popped up because of them. think about how many people were employed at those next day photo or 60 minute photo places or places like Kinkos so you can get cheap paper copies quickly.

entire industries to support companies that weren't allowed to make these companies themselves because of anti-trust laws. Now completely gone. most of the magnificent 7 today didn't even exist 20 years ago or if they did were practically unknown.
You can not lie to shareholders or the SEC. You just can not
do these companies usually give full numbers on revenue made for every game? its odd that no one seems to have brought this up before. i assume it would just go under one big headline of "game revenue" and include everything from the last year or so. whether you brought Madden or Dragon Age
