I really like Nolan movies, because I figured he did what he wanted and he didn't cast people because they were popular or for whatever reason.

That said, I find Hathaway as thoroughly insufferable as I find a number of other people in this cast (Page, Leguizamo and Zendaya are people I cringe at, and frankly, if my suspicion is correct and she was only cast to land Tom Holland, then Holland can suck a dick also).

Yeah, that could very well be. For some reason the modern West often likes to envision Hermes as androgynous and slight.

I doubt it's that deep. Nolan often re-uses actors he's worked with in previous movies --if you look at the cast list @batteredpancakes posted I count at least 4 that have been in other Nolan stuff-- plus I'm 99% certain he's heavily autistic and would probably walk off a project before letting studios bully him into doing something he didn't want to.

If it's based on some Greek story then isn't there a Greek god that's a hermaphrodite? That'd be perfect for our little dood.

Her whole acting career feels like it's one big joke to spite her. Her most famous roles are a pregnant teenager, an xmen who name is "pussy pride", and now she is potentially "Her-me's".

Casting is largely a business decision not a creative one. I’ll bet she was part of some deal between agents— cast X, get Y. And yes Nolan often recycles his actors to an point.

If you’ve seen his movies then you know just getting cast doesn’t always translate into lots of dialogue or screen time. Rami Malek has a best actor Oscar and said maybe all of two sentences in Oppenheimer.

I think maybe it's a combination of the two. I can certainly see studio execs pushing Nolan for a "more diverse cast" to push "the message" I think Nolan probably picked Ellen because he's worked with her before and (mostly) because he feels sorry for her. She's obviously a complete nervous wreck, she's always been neurotic but it's clear at this point she's starting to realize the Pooning has failed, she's butchered herself and poisoned her body trying to run away from who she is because she's never been happy and she was cozened by the Cult and promised that Poonifixion would be the answer, and now nothing has changed, and every interview where she talks about how happy she is she looks like she's ready to put a shotgun in her mouth, or more realistically she looks like someone who wakes up every morning and curses that she didn't die in her sleep.

Her career is on life support, I think Nolan saw her recent state and pitied her and decided he could throw her a lifeline and get meddling, whining DEI execs off his ass at the same time.

Fuck it I hope he's cast her as fucking Odysseus. This movie is gonna be a trainwreck anyway, might as well commit to it.
