The hilarious thing is that they're using this as an excuse to not attend the American Association of Suicidology conference and Nina is saying that they can't live in San Diego because ICE. I have no idea what route they're planning on taking to get from Chicago to California given that more checkpoints have been activated, but I suspect that their band TLL activities will be significantly curtailed in the future.

If they're too scared to travel, then they're going to have to come up with another way to pad their income. If they're stuck in one location with little to do all day every day then it becomes even harder to justify TLL having 5 staff and especially to justify how little is spent on the hotline itself. All 5 of those staff should be answering phones at this point.

If the aslyum claim goes to trial, it'll be hilarious.

The prosecutor will have zero difficulty showing that Nina intentionally ignored the expiration of her visa, became a con artist preying on Americans instead of contributing to society in any way, and that she wouldn't be in any danger back in India.

This is Trump country now. Illegals are not going to be treated well. While it is vastly exaggerated that Obama's administration was friendly to illegals (in fact he deported more people than Dubya), Trump's is actively hostile. Cases like this will, in all likelihood, be prosecuted aggressively with the deliberate intent of maximizing deportations of scofflaws like Pajeet.

This is why Pajeet is a particularly unsympathetic applicant. It's easy for me, bleeding heart that I am, to sympathize with someone who faces actual death or torture if returned to their country of origin, who may have snuck into the country but then claimed asylum as soon as possible.

This shitbag blew a perfectly good gig at Google, though, and then instead of even TRYING to apply for a green card he probably would have qualified for, just trooned the fuck out and did jack-shit.

It's a hell of a lot easier to feel sorry for the guy who snuck over the border to avoid starving in Venezuela and has since lived by doing shitty jobs and still has no path to citizenship than it is to feel sorry for a spoiled brat who was sent to study in the US, had an actual path to staying there and just decided that rules don't apply to them.

That Nina isn't the slightest bit grateful for the opportunities the US gave her (and which she chose to reject) only makes her less sympathetic.

Comparing herself and her "plight" to that of people from poor South American countries with massively unstable government and infrastructure is disingenuous at best.

Even under Obama, Pajeet's chances of staying here would've been low. Filing a frivolous asylum claim was probably the worst possible move they could've done.
