Police in West Phoenix, Arizona open fired Friday night with sting ball rounds against an anti-ICE, pro-immigrant protest that had occupied the roadway while demanding they move to the sidewalk.
Before the police confrontation, protesters gathered with Mexican, American, and other flags against Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Some shot fireworks into the air and performed burnouts with their car tires, filling the air with smoke.
A sign portrayed President Trump and Elon Musk as "Copycats" of Hitler.
In one chaotic fight involving protesters, at least one firearm was reportedly pulled. No arrests or shots fired occurred.
A large police force, many in riot gear, arrived at the scene and issued warnings in both English and Spanish threatening arrests and Class 1 misdemeanor charges if protesters didn't vacate the street, which most of them did.
A few defiantly remained in the street, and some crossed the street back and forth.
One man, who had been waving a Mexican flag in the street during the police warnings, was taken away from the scene in handcuffs.
"Please exit the roadway and remain on the sidewalk!" police announced as they pointed less-lethal munitions into the crowd and then began shooting.
Police also fired pepper ball rounds at two drivers of moving vehicles as they turned into a nearby business.
It is not immediately clear whether the drivers were involved in the demonstration.
The protest dispersed around 10pm.
