Storytime: I used to be in a PhD program, and there was a guy I met there that was accepted the same year I was (let's call him Greg) who became a personal lolcow of mine. I could probably write pages about this guy, but I'll try to keep this concise and on topic. He was married to a woman, and from what I gathered about his past he had basically spent the last 10 years failing at every job he had after he left college, so he decided to go back to college again and become a professor. Fast-forward about five years, and the rest of the grads who have been in the program this long are looking for anything they can do to network and improve their chances on the job market. As for me, I'm making plans to leave the program before my funding runs out because it finally occurs to me that straight white men, such as myself and the subject of this story, are never going to get a job as professors. During this time, I come across a group of our grad students (Greg among them), and I go mingle with them. He strikes up a conversation with me, and I refer to him as "Greg", and one of the female grads interjects to correct me that he goes by "Grace" now. At this moment, Greg has made no effort to dress like a woman, and he forgives my dead naming because (in his words) "I haven't gone girl mode yet." Next week, Greg shows up on campus wearing a dress and make-up, which of course makes him just look like like a dude wearing a dress and make-up, and I find out that same week he just submitted his dissertation proposal for approval and he is putting out feelers for job opportunities after he graduates. I am 1000% certain he trooned out just to get a job, the timing was way too convenient. This was right at the fever pitch of tranny mania in academic spaces (and every other space for that matter), and grad students are desperate motherfuckers. I left the program a couple of years ago, so right before I wrote this I looked him up on Facebook really quick to see if he actually got a job. Apparently he still lives in the same town the grad program is located in, he does not have a job listed, and I can find no mention of him getting a teaching position on the department website. But that's not all my cyberstalking revealed: I noticed that his Facebook profile no longer shows any sign of his wife. I found his wife's profile, which is still active, and it has no sign of him on it. So, from what I can gather from a distance, he still has no job and he also lost his wife.
TL;DR: A former colleague trooned out just to get a job, but he failed to get a job and he no longer has a wife either.
