Explain what is complex about something that is long. I can assure you that there are many short pieces of poetry infinitely more complex than the longest dictionaries - books with an extremely simple conceit. And this makes sense given that Terry was a programmer.

The more modifications, unnecessary loops and convoluted logic - that is, complexity - in something, the more processing power the computer would need. If you wanted to make something that the computer could easily work through, then you could get more bang (output) for your buck (processing power). You can make a simple program that is many lines of code long, depending on the project. You can fit a pretty complex video game onto a cartidge.
