Actually, in most cases witness testimony is proof in court. Hearsay is only when somebody says they heard somebody else say something.

I think we have a better understanding of defamation law than you do. For one, it has to be false to be defamation.

Hersay is what's happening here. you can't just rely on witnesses, you HAVE to have EVIDENCE.
