That might be part of it. I looked up what results in a JKA discharge and it's generally a piling up of petty infractions for general dirtbag behaviors. Stuff like being too fat, not paying bills, being reckless and incompetent at your job, see a familiar pattern forming? She basically got a failure to adapt because she's Jackie Motherfucking Singh. A bitch so stupid that she got JKAed out of the states into Puerto Rico.

Good catch; she was shipped back home 20040321, so about a month later she's back state side sans the rest of her unit and just over 5 months later she's promoted to Civilian.
she did a big fuckywucky, got her rank yanked. Then in the aftermath either lost her mind so bad they sent her back, or already planned to send her back.
In every case I know about, the soldier was given a 'Get Right' plan. Sent back to Basic, babysat by Drill Platoon Sergeant; daily or near daily locker inspections, clean the barracks, PT, chow, more cleaning, sit on CQ babysat by the other unlucky bastard on duty. Either you straighten out or you lose your fucking mind. And if you don't straighten up they want you to have lost your mind so you will sign the paperwork with minimum fuss.

because if they can send you home within 6 months of your boots touching US soil, regardless of discharge code they can say in their reports recommending the separation that the root cause was "failure to adapt to garrison posting". This means there's no investigation, IG doesn't come to see if anything is amiss with the unit or situation, they do a cursory check to make sure nothing obviously rotten is up and then shrug and say "Yup, lost their mind in peacetime army. Many such cases. SAD!" and sign off on the separation.
If its OVER six months, additional investigations need to be done: Why did this soldier suddenly lose their shit? Are we going to see other soldiers doing the same? Is it a problem with command? Facilities? Personal problems that can maybe be fixed with counselling or a transfer? This could be a mental problem caused by a failure of the army, we need to investigate internally so we can settle cheaply and make token changes that stop us from getting slammed by massive embarrassing lawsuits later on.
They kept their shit together for six months, so something must be wrong.

In AIT we had a guy fuck up bad enough he went from E3 to E1. DS made him carry his rank in his pocket for a few weeks after, and anytime he had to push he had to take his rank out, put it on the floor and as he pushed he had to apologize to his lost rank.

This guys fuck up was he wanted to be wanted to be sent home, had done a number of minor stupid things that had gotten him extra duty but no real consequences. The incident was him standing in the CO's office, pants down, while another soldier who also wanted to go home had his dick in his mouth and ensuring the CO walked in on them in this position.

This the level of stupidity that gets you busted from E3 to E1.
