I've long thought that 90's Black clothes were pretty damn similar to 80s White clothes. And no, I'm not even making a racist hand-me-down joke. Just something that occurs to me sometimes watching older TV or movies, that they are very similar.There's something about attire from Black women from the 80s-90s with the hairdo and blazer that makes them look modern. Power suits I think they're called.

That was back when people still tried to assert through representations of blacks in mass media, that the differences between the races are purely cosmetic, or at most physical, and that racists were just irrationally prejudiced against blacks due to those superficial differences. When that fallacy became impossible to maintain in the light of overwhelming empirical evidence, or more likely stopped being politically useful, it was retconned into the modern accepted position that the races are more than superficially different, but one can only refer to those differences in a way that reflects positively on the darker race. See the attempted redefinition of racism as 'prejudice+power', instead of 'treating people differently due to the colour of their skin'.
