SMITE

I remembered hearing about SMITE doing a collaboration with Nickelodeon and added ATLA and TLOK skins to the game:

For those of you who played the game, how well-received were those skins? I also remembered that Hi-Rez even added a Doge Skadi (I think) skin, out of all things, and people really didn't like it.
The Avatar skins are pretty well done including the voice acting (not the original actors). The Zuko/Korra skin made their gods enjoyable that I never enjoyed playing. They also have extra 'emotes' that you see at the end. Aang airball, korra avatar state, and zuko just flys via fire.

they've also done a TMNT skin battlepass and RWBY. I didn't like the RWBY and don't play the Gods that got the TMNT battlepass / they were less cosmetic changes compared to the Avatar pass. They added a Shredder/Splinter skins as separate buys. They're really well done.

The best part about battle pass skins is usually you get between 200-300 gems and they cost 600. They give you 50 a week and during certain holidays they give random gems. You can essentially constantly pick up skins via battlepass and never spend money but get a fair amount of sweet skins.

This is how they started 2021...with an obvious homage to the cyberpunk2077 hype

And their Season 8 starting Cinematic which shows Tiamat/Gilgamesh briefly but also some of the other new gods like Cthulu/Baba Yaga. Tiamat has something like....13 abilities and 3 different ults? ( i dont play her) but shes honestly not OP and actually fun to play against.

Heres the cthulu teaser for funzies

And yet the Clu Frog Prince skin gets a Frogger reference but the Sobek Land Shark skin has no Land Shark reference....someone dropped the ball on that.

Bumping this thread, as the upcoming SMITE 2 hasn't done as well as Hi-Rez expected, and they're laying off almost 50% of their staff (69/144) / Archive, which is in addition to the layoffs that were done last year, so the many years of bad Hi-Rez decisions have finally caught up to them. Also, because of the layoffs, SMITE 1, Paladins, and Rogue Company will no longer get updates, and it is unknown how long those game servers will last.

In response to the layoffs, one of staff at Hi-Rez, Radar, posted this statement about what will be happening with SMITE 2, but it comes off as panic damage control instead. / (Archive) Also, since Hi-Rez isn't publicly traded, I don't know if any other game company would be even interested in acquiring their assets, given that it's likely that Hi-Rez will completely implode financially and could go bankrupt as soon as this year.

Given that I was considering getting into Smite and Paladins, I think this might've just convinced me not to.

Depends on much you like the whole ASSFAGGOTS MOBA genre. Smite was my first introduction to it, since I didn't like the RTS controls of DotA and LoL. Played for a couple of years, back when the map was V1.0, Arachne and Loki had their old kits and every God didn't have CC on every ability. Never again, casual play is too much of a chore. Maybe with friends or something.

What about Paladins? Since there's a very real chance the game might be going down sometime this year, I'm hesitant on jumping in... unless the devs were to add an offline mode or something.

Never played it, so can't say anything. I've heard it's more like Overwatch than a MOBA, so it could be less AIDS to just solo queue for fun.
