I don’t believe this. I don’t believe for a minute he’s as mentally ill as people say. All of his explosions are like the original bullshit he pushed. His stupid meltdown over The Source giving College Dropout 4/5 stars. He lost his mind and exploded everywhere for months on end claiming it was a perfect 5/5 album. It’s not. It’s barely a 3/5. But he learned how to get people to talk about him. The more crazy he talked the more attention he got. The more people said his name. The more people that demanded to see and hear more from him. Over time his dumb explosions and meltdowns needed to get more and more extreme.

Milo claims he’s a genius. He’s not. He’s a 60 IQ dipshit. If you can’t tell from his inability to articulate simple ideas then it’s absolutely clear in any track he’s been the full producer on. It’s garbage. But it was hyped and people just believed it was good.

He's obviously fucking crazy. If you watch his entire Alex Jones appearance without thinking he's actually really mentally unwell, you're just not being honest.

And he's obviously a fantastic musician with genius in the literal sense of the word. His inability to articulate rhetoric at your preferred level doesn't invalidate that.

Thinking that sampling songs is “stealing” is the most midwit criticism of his music I can think of. Classical composers like Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Dvorak all “sampled” other composers. There’s also loads of modern musicians like the Beatles, Radiohead, and Aphex Twin who sampled other songs on their albums. Besides, Kanye has tons of songs that don’t have any samples at all. Also, most of Kanye’s sample are from black, usually soul artists.

While I will concede that sampling may be sufficiently transformative; there is a world of difference between learning musical themes and phrases in order to replicate them on your instrument of choice that you've spent countless hours practicing, and taking snippets of already complete songs to punctuate basic (boring) beat loops.

When the peak example of sampling is a Neil Cicirega shitpost, then it probably does not represent quality musicianship.
