I agree that it's definitely partly what started this trend, but the thing setting that movie apart from the disney remakes despite it being framed as the "first one of the live action remakes" by internet review people is it's not a fucking remake. It's literally just like the plot of HOOK where it's framed like a sequel to the original animated adaptation but live action and darker in tone. Literally the same thing of "title character from first movie is now grown up offscreen after initial adventures and has to go back to solve issue in world from original movie." As far as that type of movie goes it was ok but not the best because of how severely redesigned all the characters were compared to the thing it was meant as a sequel to. Kind of a reverse HOOK in that sense because in that Robin Williams looks like a businessman for like the first half while the pirates look like live action versions of the animated counterparts. In the alice tim burton movie alice looks like a mildly grimdarkified version of her original look from the first movie but older while everyone else is cgi or live action guys trying to imitate tim burton's nightmare before christmas-ish style and not the characters from the original.
I do agree that it's not a traditional remake as we know it today but it does have a lot in common with stuff like Maleficent.

I'm also sort of thinking about this from the perspective that one of Disney's "lesser" IPS doing so well that it most likely got the executive thinking that if something like Alice in wonderland could do this imagine what the Renaissance films could do?

Then they basically just tripled down on the reimaginings from that point forward after they got done milking Alice and maleficent

Never ends. Thank God if they never attempt reimagining "Never Cry Wolf" or "Condorman".

There's a thread in A&N about some woman who made Target her personality bitching about them reversing DEI online. It makes me wonder what would happen when Disney will do it.

Yeah sounds optimistic, but not out of the realm of possibility now that the majority has spoken and even normies hate the trend, with Disney realizing the right is willing to damage it.

Imagine all the Disney adults needing to choose between supporting their politics or identity. It would be a source of great meltdowns.

DIS posted Fiscal first quarter earnings on Wednesday that topped Wall Street forecasts, with adjusted earnings per share (EPS) rising 44% to $1.76 versus the $1.46 expected. Revenues rose 5% to hit $24.69 billion vs. $24.62 billion expected. Shares rose about 1% in pre-market trading. However, the company saw a 1% decline in subscribers to its flagship Disney+ streaming platform. Total paid Disney+ subscriptions fell to 124.6 million from 125.3 million over the quarter, though Hulu subscriptions rose 3% during the period to 53.6 million. Disney also warned that it expects another “modest decline” in Disney+ subscribers during the second quarter.

We're getting a new Cars diecast line called Race and Rescue. Cars is the only toyline where laziness, stagnation, and redecos have resulted in actual cool stuff lol. The GRC toyline was great but these are even better; let's just hope stores actually stock them and they aren't impossible to find like the NASCAR ones.

Gee guys, remember when words had meaning? They can be sued for misleading people with the language they use, they know that, right? Like if you advertise something as allergen free and it is not really allergen free and someone dies, that would get them sued. Or when you advertise your staff as carefully selected and they all turn out to be registered sex offenders after a quick Google search. Seriously, what is Disney thinking? Are they that desperate? I suppose we hit them in the wallet. If not for Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, they would have been toast. Oh well, we can wait a year. They will get an entire 4 years of having Trump breathing down on their neck ALONG with DeSantis now. Karma.

According to NPR, The Walt Disney Company is among several companies to quietly remove DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) phrasing from their most recent corporate filings.
The initiative highlighted Disney’s efforts to showcase stories and talent from underrepresented communities, as well as its intentions for the future. Some of the bold actions that were planned included having 50% of characters from scripted offerings across Disney General Entertainment come from underrepresented groups as well as adopting inclusion standards across all content. However, this initiative came under attack last year as America First Legal (AFL), a conservative nonprofit organization, filed a federal civil rights complaint against The Walt Disney Company for “violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by engaging in illegal race, sex, and national origin discrimination.” The complaint focused on Disney’s “Reimagine Tomorrow” diversity initiative, which AFL claims “strongly suggests that race, color, religion, sex, or national origin are often the only motivating factor in Disney’s hiring, training, and promotion decisions,” and that Disney is “intentionally discriminating against white American men, Christians, and Jews simply because of their race, sex, religion, and citizenship.”
