A lot of transgenderism is in cope and defiance of growing dysfunction between generations of men and women. Kids hurt by adults of the opposite gender grow up with this emptyness they desperately try to fill, trying to find ways to be accepted by the opposite gender, for instance by becoming the opposite gender, and simultaneously distancing themselves from the identity that they were abused for being born as. It goes both ways, men systematically emasculated by predominantly female school faculty, women sexually abused by men- and those abusers' actions rooted in their own desires to gain control over the opposite gender over their own dysfunctional lives- feedback loops of antagonization between generations of men and women, further pushing each other away. Furthermore, normal men and women who take their healthier social upbringings for granted also get frustrated with newer generations for having these issues, adding to a troubled individual's alienation from typical cohesion and development into a member of normal society.
People like J.K. Rowling contribute to a level of antagonism and shame towards men that arrests the social development of them, to the point that they troon out. Then these same people, who were only ever preoccupied with their own personal hangups with men, refuse to acknowledge the consequences of what they've instilled in new generations. Unable to handle that they could lose their scapegoat group to endlessly hate, they instead capitalize on what they've inadvertently wrought onto society as the fault of the group of people they've helped antagonise and alienate to desperation in the first place.

If you die and your cats can't leave the house, what the fuck do you think the carnivorous predatory animals are going to do when their starvation mode kicks in? This is also obviously not a situation that is common, nor would be tested and researched at such a large number that consistent patterns would actually be recognizable. What about factors regarding how the owner raised and treated their pets? I know some people don't think animals have souls, but it can at least be acknowledged that they act differently.
also eta: for what it's worth, I don't condone putting your pets in situations where they may end up eating your corpse for whatever reason, because of the implications of a pet that has fed on human meat. I wouldn't be surprised if these pets have just been put down over it, so even if you want your pet to not starve by eating you, society will be less forgiving of your pet. I'm not afraid to admit I wouldn't be comfortable owning a pet that has a confirmed history of eating people after the fact, even if they had no choice.
