Ex-game journo scum lady who went from tomb raider gaymer gurl to anti-woke grifter because her husband was outed as a gay prostitute moved into a tradcath larp of needing to censor oversexualized women in vidya despite making her name off of Laura Croft cosplay. She then started making the rounds on the rounds on the Quartering-owned and Quartering-adjacent channels pushing this, including Friday Night Tights. FNT's audience took umbrage with not just Melanie Mac's obvious hypocrisy but the panel (Razorfist's in particular) white-knighting of her. Mauler is only one degree of separation from all of this and runs in a lot of the same circles as these people.

What @Computer God Autism said. As far as I know the most recent batch of drama was because Melanie Mac was one of the people wanting western journos and shit to leave Stellar Blade alone cause it has a hot korean chick in it. She then proceeded to completely throw some other game under the bus that isn't quite out yet that is almost exactly the same as Stellar Blade, but because there's an emote where you can make the girl's ass jiggle now it's suddenly become debauchery. No one would really care normally but she was basically saying something like 'this shouldn't be allowed in my games' and she's completely propped up and astroturfed by the quartering and others as a 'based' gamer girl.

So really it's just another retarded woman online moment, but because she's in bed with so many people it's become a shitshow.

I just tried watching a clip that I assume is from this video and I stopped seven minutes in. It's 24 minutes long and five of the first seven (and counting?) are about star ratings and the Youtube dislike button. I really have nothing against MauLer but these tangents kill his channel for me, though I guess I'm in the minority.

I would just politely add that I read in the Razorfist thread that the ex-husband is not gay and just left her. Just sayin, Melonie is a shrill harpy and a giant hypocrite so it is a possibility.

For me it really depends on the tangent, sometimes they use the video as a springboard for a broader discussion and the video might as not be present to be responded to, they just have a discussion about a subject, but the types of tangents you mentioned are mostly boring. Worst of all for me is Fringy endlessly making Simpsons references.

Short answer, GoonerGate. Melonie was making an argument that's incredibly hypocritical and against the stances of most of her associates through the FNT crew basically supporting censorship of attractive characters and/or banning a game coming out of South Korea (a la horseshoe theory). A few years ago she openly would support sexy characters in games, believing that the average person would want to be able to play as attractive and/or cool characters, and if people didn't want to or found offense, they should just not play the game. But now she wants content like that banned completely. SmashJT had an extended conversation with her on Twitter and I think there's a YT video from him about it.

Instead of people deciding to either stay out of it or something along the lines of, "I agree with her on some things, but this isn't one of them, and that's okay, because friends can disagree", Quartering and Razorfist decided to purity test people and go along with her stupid argument, Razorfist specifically deciding to go against "spiritually caustic" games. Only to shortly after be outed as a dude who groomed a 15 year-old, had an old video of him masturbating on some weird porn site emerge, and be revealed to be abusive to the aforementioned 15 year-old (who is now an adult). Quartering himself just looked like a massive simp with nothing interesting to add, but that's nothing unusual.

In short, GoonerGate happened, and GoonerGate is retards being retarded.

This wasn't a consequence of Melonie, these things actually made the rounds three years ago (Dear Feeder even featured them on MATI in the Godsneed episode). They were just dragged back up given their obvious utility. Speaking of, I'm honestly surprised that people didn't go harder on Quarterpounder and Razorfist for their continued association and support of the demon worshipping Styx when they're trying to hop onto the tradcath larp.

I hope it's a Star Grift instead, they're much more interesting. But he's unlikely either way. He hasn't even mentioned it, usually there's a vague mention of coverage or what they think about the ongoing season.

Star Wars Theory is too much of a Disney shill to be associated with Mauler or RKOutpost now so it's doubtful Star Grift will ever come back. The dude has never read any of the old EU and thinks there's still hope that Disney will make good Star Wars.

Well Mauler never read any of it either, so it was good company. Ryan is the only one who actually knows what he is talking about having actually read the books and comics.

Prophetic post considering the latest episode: Checking out "The Star Wars Sequels Actually Make Sense" ... They Don't.

As much as the sequels do such, I agree they should engage with more good stuff, but they'll never read the books for the podcast or even the comic books.

After their Clone Wars non-coverage, I'm really left wondering if they can get into something they don't immediately like. As one of the few people in this thread who enjoy that series (It's actually my favorite mainline, Star Wars), I can agree that there are weak episodes in season 1. But it just seems like if it doesn't resonate with them out of the gate, they start complaining about it, and then make no effort to understand it, so they get further disconnected, and so on. Is there a series that they initially don't like/hate but wins them over in the end?

Andor is the only example, but it's the exception to prove the rule. They watched the first two episodes found them boring and ignored the rest. They preferred to spend four weeks covering SheHulk and it's only when their audience kept asking about it and when Critical Drinker also made a video that they gave it another go.
What bothered me is that they showered the show with praise about being objectively good yet failed to see it at the start, it does show what you said about them having a narrow range of being willing to engage with media.

Them immediately complaining about Clone Wars is funnier considering it’s an anthology that you’re free to jump around and/or skip arcs if they aren’t to your liking.

When I watched it I skipped Season 1 completely and don’t feel I missed any particularly essential information.
