OpenAI has hella premium and even free subscribers who are familiar with their product - it "remembers" stuff you tell it (if you consent).
So if you've been using it a while you'd maybe be hesitant to use something else - beside that, agents seem like one of the new frontiers and some other novelty/quality of life features can easily make one stick out better than the others.

Do end customers really care if openai gets a score of 87 and deepseek gets a score of 89 on some test? Likely not.

Time will tell of course. It could very much implode or go bankrupt if they don't keep pushing hard.
