This tranny has some cinema sins level takes and criticisms. "I hate it when the game ends with the player dying. I prefer 'it was all a dream' endings to that because at least the player survives." Sure dying at the end is overused, but getting hating a game purely on the basis that the player character doesn't survive at all is the same level of people who hate movies with a sad ending.
Why? Indie games are such a flash in the pan that it doesn't really matter. They show up, youtubers talk about/play it then they disappear after a few weeks. I'm also not going to get mad at some indy dev making some cash off his overhyped game.
They did not "hate the game purely on the basis the player doesn't survive". There's no gameplay in Iron Lung. It's a standing simulator made for Youtubers to Soyface at when a literal JPEG of an angler fish tweens toward you, square image and all.
There was enough for what it was. The gameplay was using a grid map to navigate blindly while taking pictures of alien strutters. That's a pretty neat idea for a little itch.io game (which it was). I really don't understand your hate for that game. The dev makes a few small projects in between his big releases, and Iron Lung was one he released after Dusk. Sure YouTubers overhyping it is annoying, but I don't think it is a problem because David Szymanski makes some great games, and I am glad he got the exposure.
Are they contradictory? Iron Lung had great set up for it's setting, people latched on to it, then moved on because the Dev was too busy making other games.
The amount of times these people willingly choose to talk about horrific subjects and still censor themselves saying, "suicide," or, "killed," or, "raped," is the main thing that I get pissed off about. Double points if they're actively showing (censored, of course) video of the thing they're talking about. I turn these things on for background noise so hearing 17 random voids of silence when discussing the details of whatever happened just serves to make me find a different video.
That thing's still going on? What the fuck is the story even about anymore?

The story's been on hiatus since 2023 so I doubt it will return. I remember there being a film planned around it but I guess it's dead in the water too.
I'd have to agree with this - while Urban's reaction to criticism at first was definitely a bit on the dramatic side, I think The Painter should be praised as an example of a series shaping up and gaining one hell of a second wind in time for its payoff. The "Hell" episode finally breaks free of the series formula and takes its presentation up a notch in a big way, plus it finishes with a rather satisfying conclusion that has space for a continuation - the mastermind is captured, a victim has finally been saved (not without significant injury, however) and a trial awaits - I'll be interested to see if we get an episode which serves as an epilogue to see how things will come to an end.
I know what the game is, and it was short of even a walking simulator. You may not feel this way, but the repeated emphasis on being "little" or "for what it is" are excuses. Without mentioning for a third time how it was a side project, or "good for what it was", I'd like you to tell me you genuinely have fun walking four feet to press a button, and then coming back to press another to see a JPEG of a fish.
I thought it ended with the main character suicide bombing the aliens only to wake up in our world? I kind of zoned out after they get captured by the Government Agents working for the aliens and somehow get into a twitter war with their fucking captors.
Sorry if this has already been answered in the video, I don't want to watch it. Too messed up, seen enough shit with the previous zoosadist stuff that I could go without hearing it forever.
